Description/symptom of problem: PI28492 resolves the following problem: ERROR DESCRIPTION: System garbage collection(gc) is getting called explicitly every 5 seconds, causing very high CPU. LOCAL FIX: Reduce maxpercent to less than 100, such as 99, then the frequency of the GC should go down. PROBLEM SUMMARY USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application Server PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Extensive calls to Garbage collection (gc) are causing high CPU usage RECOMMENDATION: None System garbage colletion(gc) is called at short intervals which is causing high CPU usage PROBLEM CONCLUSION: To avoid frequent garbage colletion(gc)calls we corrected the garbage colletion calculation. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 8.5.5.4.
