About this Update

This update contains the following APAR fixes: IV36046, IV35382
More information on these APARs is displayed below:

APAR IV36046
Problem Description

CICS EXPLORER V5.1 DOES NOT CONNECT TO CICS VSE.

Problem Summary

CICS Explorer V5.1 fails to connect to CICS VSE with the message:

IZE0105E Connection failed with exception null

In the code path for a VSE connection a Null Pointer Exception is generated. Because of the different code flow from the NPE the VSE connection is not attempted.

APAR IV35382
Problem Description

Problem Summary

This APAR contains two compatibilty fixes for the CICS Explorer:

1) This APAR includes a change to the CICS Explorer corresponding to CICS APAR PM78624:
It is not possible to define a capture specification for EXEC CICS LINK commands originating from the CICS mirror transations DFHMIRS or DFHMIRR.

2) This APAR also describes a further compatibility problem with the CICS event binding editor:
When exporting an event specification for an event binding that uses an adapter set, the file name includes either _WBE, _CBE, or _CBER as part of the file name. However when exporting an event specification for even binding that uses an adapter, the file name doesn't include this part. This creates a discrepancy between the file names.

Installation Instructions

To install updates for the CICS Explorer, there are two options:

  1. Update the CICS Explorer from within the CICS Explorer using the IBM-hosted Update-Site.
  2. Download the update from Fix Central to be installed locally into the CICS Explorer.
    (Known as an archive update-site).

An advantage of using the IBM-hosted update-site is that it is kept up-to-date with the latest version. Users can search for any available updates to the CICS Explorer periodically from within the CICS Explorer. They can choose if and when to install them at their convenience. Alternatively the user can choose to get the CICS Explorer to automatically search for updates and inform the user when they become available.

Otherwise updates can be downloaded on demand from Fix Central, but users will need to check the Fix Central website for any further updates available, and download them as appropriate. Fix Central: http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/

Updating via the Update-Site

To update the CICS Explorer using the IBM-hosted update-site follow the instructions below:

  1. Launch the CICS Explorer
  2. Select Help->Check for Updates from the main menu.
  3. An update should be found for the CICS Explorer.
  4. A link to the CICS Explorer update-site is included with the product by default but to check if the update-site is present:
  5. If the update site is present as it should be, the following step can be skipped:
  6. Select Help -> Check for Updates from the main menu.
  7. If an update is available, an Update dialog box will appear to confirm the installation of the update. Click through the rest of the wizard.
  8. The CICS Explorer is then updated, and you'll be asked to restart to apply the changes. Click Yes to restart the CICS Explorer, once it has restarted it will now be up-to-date.

Installation via Fix Central

To update the CICS Explorer from Fix Central follow the instructions below:

  1. Download the update archive from FixCentral.
  2. Launch the CICS Explorer
  3. Click Window->Preferences.
  4. Select the Install/Update->Available Software Sites preferences

  8. Click OK to exit the Add Site dialog.
  9. Click OK to exit the Preferences dialog.
  10. To update the CICS Explorer select Help -> Check for Updates from the main menu.
  11. If the CICS Explorer's version is earlier than the version of the CICS Explorer in the zip being downloaded, an Update dialog box will appear to confirm the installation of the update. Click through the rest of the wizard.
  12. The CICS Explorer is then updated, and you'll be asked to restart to apply the changes. Click Yes to restart the CICS Explorer, once it has restarted it will now be up-to-date.
