Problem Description

Release of CICS Deployment Assistant Plug-in v1.1.0.2

Problem Summary

This APAR tracks the release of update 1.1.0.2 of the IBM CICS Deployment Assistant plug-in for the CICS Explorer.

This update adds support for CICS TS v4.2 systems into the Deployment Assistant plug-in.  The ability to discover CICS TS v4.2 systems with this updated version of the IBM CICS Deployment Assistant plug-in for CICS Explorer is also dependent upon APAR PM38405 being applied to the CICS DA z/OS component.

The following defects have also been fixed by this update:
28835: Open action should not be available on active jobs, causes exception when taken
    30151: Update messages.properties files
    30170: Update version
28810: SM Connection Exceptions not detected correctly during discovery
24893: Tools p2 update sites don't have categories
19952: Rediscover on MVS image on changed subsystems shows a couple of nulls in labels
22257: We do not use the SMF_ID for an MVS Image correctly
26846: MVS Image removed from test
30059: Region -> Job adapter is incorrectly contributed by DA and not in the base explorer
30149: Model editors can no longer use ResourceDefinitionEditor
20190: HFSFileEditor should be dirty after a failed save
21731: Restarting a region removes it from the MVSImage
18977: Cloning using incorrect level of CPSM to define region
    22013: Editorial Changes to Cheatsheets
21731: Restarting a region removes it from the MVSImage. Avoid NPE when no job details returned from host
    21263: NPE in decorator
    19754: Cloning a CICS System with a WLMSpec/RTASpec doesn't inherit the WLMSpec/RTASpec

Installation Instructions

To install the CICS Deployment Assistant plug-in, there are two options:

  1. Add the IBM-hosted CICS Deployment Assistant plug-in update-site to the CICS Explorer and install it from there: http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/htp/cics/updates/da/1.1/latest/.
  2. Or alternatively download a zipped version of the update-site and install it locally; (known as an archive update-site).

An advantage of using the IBM-hosted update-site is that it is kept up-to-date with the latest version. Users can search for any available updates to the CICS Deployment Assistant plug-in periodically within the CICS Explorer. They can choose if and when to install them at their convenience. Alternatively the user can choose to get the CICS Explorer to automatically search for updates and inform the user when they become available.

Otherwise updates can be downloaded on demand from Fix Central, but users will need to check the Fix Central website for any further updates available, and download them as appropriate. Fix Central: http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/

Installation via the Update-Site

To update the CICS Deployment Assistant plug-in using the IBM-hosted update-site follow the instructions below:

  1. Launch the CICS Explorer
  2. Click Help on the CICS Explorer menu bar and click Software Updates in the drop-down menu. The Software Updates and Add-ons window is displayed.
  3. Click the Available Software tab.
  4. The first time an update or install of the CICS Deployment Assistant plug-in is done the update-site needs to be added to the CICS Explorer. On subsequent updates the following step can be skipped.
  5. On an initial install of the CICS Deployment Assistant plug-in only: Select the check-box alongside the tool name, and click Install...
  6. Alternatively to update an existing CICS Deployment Assistant plug-in installation select the Installed Software tab, and then click Update...
  7. If an update is available for the CICS Deployment Assistant plug-in, an Update dialog box will appear (for a new install an Install dialog will appear). Confirm the installation by clicking Finish.
  8. The CICS Deployment Assistant plug-in is then installed/updated, and you'll be asked to restart to apply the changes. Click Yes to restart the CICS Explorer with the CICS Deployment Assistant plug-in now installed and up-to-date.
