Fix (APAR): PK95203 Status: Fix Release: 6.1.0.5 Operating System: AIX,HP-UX,Linux,Solaris,Windows Supersedes Fixes: PK83453 CMVC Defect: PK95203 Byte size of APAR: 806912 Date: 2009-09-22 Abstract: The centralized installation manager cannot detect the SPARC processor family of the remote Solaris host. Description/symptom of problem: PK95203 resolves the following problem: ERROR DESCRIPTION: The Central Installation Manager is not able to detect the processor family (SPARC) of the remote Solaris host. LOCAL FIX: N/A PROBLEM SUMMARY USERS AFFECTED: Users of WebSphere Virtual Enterprise Version 6.1.1 who are using the centralized installation manager PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The centralized installation manager cannot detect the SPARC processor family of the remote Solaris host. RECOMMENDATION: Install the interim fix provided with this APAR to resolve the problem. The centralized installation manager does not detect the SPARC processor family that the remote Solaris host is running on. The following error message appears in the SystemOut.log file of the deployment manager: XCIM0041E: An error occurred while installing package "ND61FixPack19" on host XXXXX. Error detail: com.ibm.ws.xd.cimgr.controller.CIMgrCommandException: XCIM0031E: The installation package "ND61FixPack19" does not contain a defined installer for hardware type "sun4v" and platform type SunOS. PROBLEM CONCLUSION: The code was changed to use an alternative method to determine the processor family if the first query is unsuccessful. The fix for this APAR is included in WebSphere Virtual Enterprise Version 6.1.1. Refer to the Recommended Updates page for delivery information: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=3023&uid=swg27005709 Directions to apply fix: Install Fix to: ___ Application Server Nodes _X_ Deployment Manager Nodes ___ Both NOTE: The user must have Administrative rights in Windows, or be the Actual Root User in a UNIX environments. Also, you should be logged in with the same authority level when unpacking a fix, fix pack or refresh pack. DOWNLOAD THE UPDATE INSTALLER TOOL IN ORDER TO INSTALL A FIX. The Fix Installer can be downloaded from the following link: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg21205991 Customers must be at V6.1.0.17 or newer of the Update Installer.  This can be checked by reviewing the level of the Update Installer in file /updateinstaller/version.txt. 1) download and unzip the PK95203_CIM.zip file directly to the maintenance directory. 2) Shutdown WebSphere Manually execute setupCmdLine.bat in Windows or . ./setupCmdLine.sh in Unix from the WebSphere instance that maintenance is being applied to. 3) Launch Update Installer 4) Enter the installation location of the WebSphere product you want to update. 5) Select the "Install maintenance package" operation. 6) Enter the directory path of your maintenance directory where you have unzipped PK95203_CIM.zip and click the Next button. 7) The Available Maintenance Package to Install page should list all maintenance packages (.pak files) that it finds in the directory path provided in the previous step. The Update Installer will select the correct maintenance packages based on your system configuration and will not allow an invalid combination to be installed. Please keep the Update Installer recommendations and click the Next button and continue with the installation of the maintenance package. To determine why some maintenance packages have been identified as not applicable, see description in log found in /logs/tmp*/updatelogs.txt (For this APAR, you must select both 6.1.0.5-WS-WXD-IFPK95203.pak and 6.1.0.5-WS-WXDOP-IFPK95203.pak to have the complete fix that supercede APAR PK83453. If you select only 6.1.0.5-WS-WXD-IFPK95203.pak you will only get part of the changes made for PK83453.) 8) Install the maintenance package. 9) Restart WebSphere Directions to remove fix: NOTE: The user must have Administrative rights in Windows, or be the Actual Root User in a UNIX environments. NOTE: FIXES MUST BE REMOVED IN THE ORDER THEY WERE APPLIED. DO NOT REMOVE A FIX UNLESS ALL FIXES APPLIED AFTER IT HAVE FIRST BEEN REMOVED. YOU MAY REAPPLY ANY REMOVED FIX. Example: If your system has fix1, fix2, and fix3 applied in that order and fix2 is to be removed, fix3 must be removed first, fix2 removed, and fix3 re-applied. 1) Shutdown WebSphere Manually execute setupCmdLine.bat in Windows or . ./setupCmdLine.sh in Unix from the WebSphere instance that uninstall is being run against. 2) Start Update Installer 3) Enter the installation location of the WebSphere product you want to remove the fix. 4) Select "Uninstall maintenance package" operation. 5) Enter the file name of the maintenance package to uninstall (6.1.0.5-WS-WXDOP-IFPK95203.pak followed by 6.1.0.5-WS-WXD-IFPK95203.pak ). 6) UnInstall maintenance package. 7) Restart WebSphere Directions to re-apply fix: 1) Shutdown WebSphere 2) Follow the Fix instructions to apply the fix. 3) Restart WebSphere Additional Information: As this APAR includes the fix for APAR PK83453 (Enablement for WVE centralized installation manager to work with Update Installer 7.0), the same information that applies to PK83453 is applicable to this APAR: After you have installed this interim fix on the deployment manager node, restart the deployment manager and perform the following actions: 1) Download the InstallPackageND61FPnn.xml descriptors again using the procedure described in the InfoCenter if you intend to install Network Deplyment v6.1 fix packs on remote targets using Update Installer v7.0.0.x. You must perform this task even if you have previously downloaded the InstallPackageND61FPnn.xml descriptors prior to applying this interim fix. (This interim fix has updated the download URL such that newer version of those descriptors that specify the use of Update Installer v7 will be downloaded instead of the older version that specifies the use of Update Installer v6.1.) InfoCenter URL: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wxdinfo/v6r1/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.websphere.ops.doc/info/odoe_task/tcimgr_maintenance.html Note that if you do download the revised InstallPackageND61FPnn.xml descriptors after installing this interim fix and you later want to uninstall the fix for whatever reason, you must also delete these InstallPackageND61FPnn.xml decriptors form the ${DMGR_INSTALL_DIR}/properties/xdcimgr directory as well. This is required because these revised descriptors are not compatible with centralized installation manager (CIM) in WebSphere Virtual Enterprise v6.1.0.5 without the interim fix. 2) Download the latest version of Update Installer v7.0 using the procedure described in the InfoCenter. Make sure you click on the package named "Update Installer for WebSphere Application Server 7.0" in step 2 of the procedure. InfoCenter URL: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wxdinfo/v6r1/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.websphere.ops.doc/info/odoe_task/tcimgr_updateinstaller.html 3) To ensure that Update Installer v7.0 will be used next time you install an interim fix on remote targets, you should uninstall Update Installer v6.1 from each of your remote hosts in the cell if you have previously used it to install maintenance on those machines. To uninstall Update Installer v6.1, use the procedure decribed in the InfoCenter. In Step (1b) of the procedure, select "Refresh pack, fix pack, or maintenance tool" for the "Select a package type" prompt; then select the package named "Update Installer for WebSphere Application Server 6.1" for the "Select an installation package" prompt. Then follow the rest of the prompts. InfoCenter URL: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wxdinfo/v6r1/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.websphere.ops.doc/info/odoe_task/tcimgr_uninstallwizard.html After these steps, you are all set for the next time you want to install interim fixes on the remote targets. CIM will automatically use version 7.0 of the Update Installer for the task.
