The readme files contain information that may not be included in the IBM TS3500 documentation. The readme files take precedence over the documentation. Therefore, any information in this file that conflicts with information in the documentation will supercede the TS3500 Tape Library Operator Guide. The IBM TS3500 Tape Library is responsible for providing basic and advanced tape functionality for backup/restore and archive environments. For more details on functionality and other operation procedures, consult your copy of the TS3500 Tape Library Operator Guide. A softcopy is available for viewing at the following link: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/ts3500tl/v1r0/index.jsp In order to provide maximum performance and reliability, it is recommended that the latest version of microcode is installed on your IBM tape libraries and tape devices. These firmware updates are intended to, among other things, increase overall reliability, improve tape handling, further reduce any possibility of data errors, and provide continued enhancements to diagnostic capabilities. The MIB files are not installed on the library. They are installed on the customer SNMP client. 2. Firmware must be upgraded in steps if the firmware update crosses major releases and upgrade is concurrent to host activity. For example, a 3584 library running 8xxx code must first update to 9xxx then Axxx, before upgrading to Bxxx. 3. Firmware upgrade does not have to occur in steps, if the upgrade is done Non-Concurrent to host activity, and the library is power cycled before the upgrade. For example, a 3584 library running 8xxx code can be upgraded directly to Cxxx code if all host activity is stopped and the library is power cycled before the upgrade. 4. The 95xx or higher level of library firmware requires Enhanced Node Cards to be installed. For Library frame models xx2, this requires FC 1700/1701 or a model conversion to xx3 models. Note: Frame models Dx2 without node cards, do not require FC 1701 or model conversion to Dx3. 5. The 8xxx or higher level of library firmware requires ALMS to be enabled. If ALMS is not to be installed and enabled, do not install this level of firmware. 6. 3584 machines without ALMS should use library firmware 7xxx. 7. 3584 machines with one or more D42 frames must use library code 3060. 8. If your machine currently has library code 3xxx, 4xxx, 5xxx, 6xxx or 7xxx then refer to the chart above to determine what code to load. 9. If your machine currently has library code 2xxx, first install 3480.bin, and then refer to the chart above to determine the final code to load. 10.If your machine currently has library code 1xxx, first install 2460base.bin, then install 3480.bin, and then refer to the chart above to determine the final code to load. SUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEMS: This tape library works with the following operating systems: AIX, HPUX, Linux, Solaris, Windows, i5OS. For details on supported tape attachment please refer to the System Storage Interoperation Center website. http://www.ibm.com/systems/support/storage/config/ssic/ TROUBLESHOOTING: IBM Tape Diagnostic Tool (ITDT) provides the customer with functionality to perform maintenance tasks and run diagnostic tasks to determine tape device issues. This is available to download with the device driver. Support: Support for the following ITDT version: * ITDT-SE 9.5.1.20210723 (See ITDT limitations under Known Issues and Limitations section) * ITDT-GE 9.5.1.20210723 (See ITDT limitations under Known Issues and Limitations section) Support for the Following MIB Files: *Go to Fix Central under the TS3500 product and get the latest MIB files. NOTE: For a complete list of ITDT Limitations and Known Issues, please refer to the ITDT Readme file and the "Device Driver Installation and User Guide" distributed with the software. Known Issues and Limitations: - Brocade: Brocade HBAs, and their IBM version, do NOT support L-port topology. Direct attach configurations to our Tape Storage products is therefore NOT supported with these cards. - Brocade: Brocade HBA driver on Linux has to be installed manually by user, as it is not native on the operating system - CPF/DPF: Control Path and Data Path Failover is not supported when running devices connected to a single host server with HBAs that use different HBA drivers. - ITDT: For a complete list of ITDT Limitations and Known Issues, please refer to the Readme file and the "Device Driver Installation and User Guide" distributed with the software. - Windows: When performing power on reset (power cable pulls) to the 3592-E06, 3592-E07, Ultrium TD6 LTO and Ultrium TD5 LTO tape drives, after a successful Control Path Failover, old changer path could not be reconfigured automatically by Windows Device manager, the medium changer library will need to be reconfigured manually. - Windows: ITDT Report v8.0.0.20140523 # 3, 4 & 5, running read/write test with ITDT intermittent failures are appearing due to the toggling of Logical Block Protection. - AIX / ITDT: AIX OS sets per default maximum size file to 1 GB. For execution of ITDT physical copy, from Tape to Image or from Image to Tape with files bigger than 1 GB, "ulimited -f unlimited" must be run before this operation - IBM i does not support Application Managed Encryption (AME) nor System Managed Encryption (SME). - Linux zSeries. Please refer to the zFCP Best Practices document for zLinux device attachment configuration at this link: https://www-05.ibm.com/de/2018-linux-on-z-ws-boeblingen/agenda/pdf/17_-_zFCP_Best_Practices.pdf for SLES on kernels 4.4.114 and above fast_io_fail_tmo and dev_loss_tmo require special parameters to be set for Error Recovery on FC transport layer. - LTO Drive firmware. In a host environment with multiple cable paths lost and driver data path fail over attempts, there is a possibility of the drive becoming unresponsive to host SCSI commands and unsuccessful driver fail over. - Starting in F130 SSL settings have changed. To access the SSL version of the web gui (HTTPS) you must have SSL enabled or the web page will not load. If SSL is disabled, you can access the non-SSL (HTTP) web gui and change the settings under Access -> Secure Socket Layer - Un-initialized M8 media is not supported. Pre-initialized M8 media is supported with a minimum LTO8 tape drive firmware level of HB82. The usage of (a) un-initialized M8 media or (b) pre-initialized M8 media with un-supported LTO8 tape drive firmware will result in a permanent reduction in the capacity of the M8 media from 9 TB to 6 TB (native). - Customer with LTO7/LTO8 on P380 level using Legato NetWorker or NetBackup with encryption and experiencing a hang during a write operation should downlevel to N9M0 to resolve this issue.
