See the Licensing agreement presented when the driver is downloaded or see it at: http://www-947.ibm.com/systems/support/machine_warranties/machine_code.html IBM periodically releases firmware updates that are intended to, among other things, increase overall reliability, improve tape handling, further reduce any possibility of data loss/data error, and provide continued enhancements to diagnostic capabilities. The readme files contain information that may not be included in the IBM Tape Library documentation. The readme files take precedence over the documentation. Therefore, any information in this file that conflicts with information in the documentation will supercede the SOSG. In order to provide maximum performance and reliability, it is recommended that the latest version of microcode is installed on your IBM LTO tape devices. These firmware updates are intended to, among other things, increase overall reliability, improve tape handling, further reduce any possibility of data errors, and provide continued enhancements to diagnostic capabilities. LTO4 drives have two configurations, non V2 and V2. V2 drives can be identified through the web interface. See LTO4 Features and Notices below. CODE LEVEL NAMING CONVENTIONS FOR HALF HIGH DRIVES (non V2 configuration ): =========================================================================== Format: FF_YRMODYV_FVER.ro FF : the form Factor(Full High-df,Half High-dh) YRMODY : the date (yr,month, day) V : the version FVER : the firmware version Example:df090316f_93G6.ro Form Factor : df- Full High Date : 090316 , 09/03/16 Version : f Firmware Version: 93G6 CODE LEVEL NAMING CONVENTIONS FOR HALF HIGH DRIVES (V2 configuration): ========================================================================== Format: GENE_FVER_CON_FF_ro GENE : the drive generation (LTO4 for Ultrium 4) FVER : the firmware version CON : the connection type (SAS (SAS), Fibre (FC)) FF : the form factor (Full High- fh, Half High - hh) Example:LTO4_B171.SAS.hh.ro Generation: LTO4 Firmware Version: B171 Connection Type: SAS Form Factor: Half High (hh) SUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEMS: This tape drive works with the following operating systems: AIX, HPUX, Linux, Solaris, Windows, i5OS. For details on supported tape attachment please refer to the System Storage Interoperation Center website. http://www.ibm.com/systems/support/storage/config/ssic/ TROUBLESHOOTING: IBM Tape Diagnostic Tool (ITDT) provides the customer with functionality to perform maintenance tasks and run diagnostic tasks to determine tape device issues. This is available to download with the device driver. =================================================================================================== LTO4 FEATURES AND NOTICES: - Features IBM Ultrium 4 Tape Drive in Half-High or Full High Form Factor - Backwards compatible with previous iterations of LTO Ultrium drives - 3 Gbps SAS Attachment - Data transfer rate of up to 120 MB/sec native - Hardware encryption available with proper package - Physical storage capacity up to 1.6 TB (2:1 compression) Identifing V2 drives through the web interface: There are two paths to identify V2 drives with the navigation pane. The first path is through Monitor Library and the second path is through Service Library. Path 1: 1. Select Monitor Library from the navigation pane on the left side of the page. 2. Select Drive Identity to display all drives identified within the library. 3. Specific drive information will be displayed for each drive identified. 4. Refer to the Version number to determine which type of drive is installed. The number 2 represents a V2 drive. Path 2: 1. Select Service Library from the navigation pane on the left side of the page. 2. Select Upgrade Firmware. This will display all drives within the library. 3. Each drive type is identified in the blue highlighted banner. 4. Text will indicate the drive type with a "V2 " at the end indicating a V2 drive. Example: Upgrade Drive 2 (LTO4 HH SAS V2) Ensure you download and install the correct drive firmware. • Firmware for the ULT3580-HH4 drive is not compatible with the ULT3580-HH4 V2 drive. • Firmware for the ULT3580-HH4 V2 drive is not compatible with the ULT3580-HH4 drive. Note: Depending if your tape drive is standalone or in a library, will determine what drive code should be installed and is supported. See your tape drive fixlist for guidance.
