Available Education N/A ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Prerequisites - This patch requires V2.3 or V2.4 package code to be already installed on the system (This patch will fail to install on a fresh Linux OS installation). - PT Manager V2.4.4.0 or higher to be installed. - ProtecTIER server operating system needs to be upgraded to RH5.4 using "TS7650 / TS7650G Maintenance and Recovery Disk (Red Hat Linux 5.4 DVDRom w/Kickstart)" v15 or higher. This media can be obtained by the customer, to order the Media Supply feature (no charge) for their existing ProtecTIER license, from their respective IBM Sales representative. Upon receipt of this request, the IBM sales rep must then place a normal order for feature code 5829 against PID 5639-XXB (Enterprise Edition) or feature code 5809 against PID 5639-XXP (Appliance Edition). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Installation Instructions Full installation instructions can be found in document "Software upgrade and replication enablement guide" (gc53-1196-04.pdf). Upgrades from V2.4.7.0 and higher to V3.1.0.X and V3.1.1.X are not supported. If you are at one of those levels, please upgrade to V3.1.2.0 or higher. Upgrading AP1 ----------------- a) For an upgrade installation on top of V2.4.5.X systems or lower conccurent upgrade doesn't supported. The vtfd and ptcluster processes should be stopped for both nodes before upgrade: Follow the procedure mentioned in paragraph e below for each of the nodes b) For an upgrade installation on top of V2.4.6.X systems: 1) For Upgrade from v2.4.6.X use the current code V2.4.7.0 following the procedure mentioned in "ProtecTIER Software Upgrade and Replication Enablement Guide" (gc53119604.pdf) Chapter 6, Sub-Section "Upgrading ProtecTIER" under Section "Upgrading Red Hat and ProtecTIER on a stand-alone server" or "Upgrading Red Hat and ProtecTIER on clustered servers" accordingly 2) At the end of the installation of cluster node B, initialize vtfd service on node B by running 'service vtfd init', to allow it to join the cluster. Failing to manually initialize the VTFD on the node B, will not allow it to start successfully after the installation. c) For an upgrade installation on top of V2.3.X systems: 1) For Upgrade from v2.3.X use the current code V2.4.7.0 following the procedure mentioned in "ProtecTIER Software Upgrade and Replication Enablement Guide" (gc53119604.pdf) Chapter 6, Sub-Section "Upgrading ProtecTIER" under Section "Upgrading Red Hat and ProtecTIER on a stand-alone server" or "Upgrading Red Hat and ProtecTIER on clustered servers" accordingly 2) At the end of the installation of cluster node B, initialize vtfd service on node B by running 'service vtfd init', to allow it to join the cluster. Failing to manually initialize the VTFD on the node B, will not allow it to start successfully after the installation. d) For an upgrade installation on top of V2.2.X systems: 1) For Upgrade from v2.2.0.X use the current code V2.4.7.0 following the procedure mentioned in "ProtecTIER Software Upgrade and Replication Enablement Guide" (gc53119604.pdf) Chapter 5, Sub-Section "Preparing for the 2.4.1.x upgrade" Chapter 6, Sub-Section "Upgrading ProtecTIER" under Section "Upgrading Red Hat and ProtecTIER on a stand-alone server" or "Upgrading Red Hat and ProtecTIER on clustered servers" accordingly 2) At the end of the installation of cluster node B, initialize vtfd service on node B by running 'service vtfd init', to allow it to join the cluster. e) Node Installation Instructions: ================================ Important: before starting the upgrade process power off the second node. When you will finish the upgrade for the first node, power on the second node back and start the upgrade process for the second node. 1. Log in to the ProtecTIER server as root. 2. Locate this PT_TS7650_AP1_V2.4.7.0.x86_64.tar file under /install/ (if the /install directory does not exist, create it using the command: 'mkdir /install'). 3. Type the command: 'cd /install'. 4. Type the command: 'tar xvf PT_TS7650_AP1_V2.4.7.0.x86_64.tar'. 5. Type the command 'cd PT_TS7650_AP1_V2.4.7.0.x86_64'. 6. Type the command './autorun '.If the vtfd service is running, you will be asked to confirm stopping it by typing 'Y'. At the end of the PT installation, the TS7650G server will require a reboot confirmation. 7. In order to verify the component versions on the ProtecTIER server, run the following command on the ProtecTIER server: /opt/dtc/app/sbin/get_versions Installation procedure can be done by TSSC as well. In order to install by TSSC: Log into the TSSC with userid: service and password: service. A blue screen appears. Right click on the blue screen and a selection menu is displayed. Select Terminal from menu and a command line terminal session opens. Enter: ssh ptadmin@172.31.1.xxx where xxx is what eth5 (DD3 server) or eth3 (DD1 server) is set for on the TS7650G. If the ssh key has not been accepted, answer yes to the question. Then insert the password as needed. Once the password is entered, you are on a command line for the TS7650G. Continue with code upgrade procedure (a) through (c) above. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Known Issues and Restrictions in this Level Do not perform any configuration operation if both nodes of the cluster do not have the same patch level. Do not move a cartridge from the shelf of the remote repository while it's being replicated to. Issue ID Description Workaround -------- ------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- 9035 PT Manager does not startup when working in Dual Mode Refrain from working with Dual Mode Display display with specific drivers of Nvidia graphic cards 9149 When using ptcli for moving cartridges, vtfd service Call IBM Software Support can not be stopped until all cartridges are moved successfully 10830 I case of upgradding a DD1 system with only 4 network link the RAS Call IBM support - there will be a need to replace installation will fail and a misguiding call home will start a specific file in the PT This will cause no down time to the systems 13224 Performing a bug check for both nodes when cluster internal network Both nodes will be rebooted. disconnected from PT for duration of exactly 11-15 seconds. After start up, the system resumes to work proprely ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9. Compatibility Server patch PT_TS7650_AP1_V2.4.7.0 should work with TSSC code level 5.7.8 or higher. Server patch PT_TS7650_AP1_V2.4.7.0 requires the use of PT_Manager_V2.4.4.0 or higher. The previous PT manager code is not compatible with this new server code level, therefore, it will fail to connect to it. You will have to install the new PT_Manager code in order to resolve this connectivity issue. All existing replication configurations are supported regardless of ProtecTIER version running on the repositories. New replication setup requires the use of V2.4 PT software. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
