Status LED not flashing

When you apply power to the system, both power LEDs on each canister display green and the status LEDs, which are located on the rear of the enclosure, begin to flash slowly indicating that the system is ready to be initialized. If the status LEDs do not start flashing, use the following instructions to resolve this issue.

About this task

If the status LED on the canister that you are initializing is not flashing at a regular rate, the system cannot be initialized until this condition is resolved. The regular rate of flashing for the status LED is approximately one half second on and one half second off. Complete the following steps until the status LED is flashing at the regular rate:
Note: Unless stated, all the checks and actions are completed on the rear of the enclosure. Do not disturb any wiring or other equipment while you complete these tasks.

Procedure

  1. Ensure that you are looking at the enclosure that you want to initialize
Figure 1 shows the rear of the enclosure:
Figure 1. Rear view of enclosure
    Rear view of enclosure
    •  1  Canister 1
    •  2  Canister 2
    •  3  Interface card (two per canister)
    •  4  Fan pack (two per canister)
    •  5  RAID Controller (one per canister)
    •  6  Power supply unit 1
    •  7  Power supply unit 2
The rear of the enclosure includes two canisters, interface cards, fan packs, RAID controllers, and two power supplies. If this matches the enclosure you are attempting to use, proceed to step 2.

System initialization is only required to occur on one enclosure.

  2. Ensure that the canister is powered on by locating the power LED indicators ( 1 ) on the canister that you are initializing.
Figure 2 shows the rear of the enclosure with canister LEDs highlighted.
Figure 2. Rear view of enclosure with canister LEDs highlighted
This image shows the rear of the enclosure with canister LEDs highlighted.
The green power LED (The green power LED.) should be permanently on (not flashing or off). If the green power LED is on, continue to the Step 3.

If the power LED on the canister is flashing, the canister is still powering on. However, if the power LED is flashing for 5 minutes after you applied power to the enclosure, there is a problem with the canister. Restart the initialization process by inserting the USB flash drive in the USB port on the other canister in the enclosure. Contact the support center to replace the faulty canister.

If the power LED is off, check the power indicators on the power supply units. Normal power supply operation can be confirmed by verifying that both the AC and DC green lights are lit, as in Figure 3:
Figure 3. Power supply unit LEDs
This figure shows the LEDs on the power supply unit
    •  1  AC
    •  2  DC
    •  3  ! (Fault)

Ensure that the DC power LED ( 2 ) is on for at least one power supply unit. If the DC power LED ( 2 ) is lit, continue to the next step. If the DC power LED and the AC power LED ( 1  and  2 ) are not lit and the fault LED ( 3 ) is not lit, trace the power cables back to the power source to ensure that they are fully inserted into the power supplies and the rack power distribution units. Ensure that all rack power distribution units are on and receiving power, then check the DC power LED ( 2 ) again.

If the fault LED is lit on both power supply units or both units have their AC power LED on but not their DC power LED on, you must replace the power supply units before you can use this enclosure. Contact the support center for new power supply units.

  3. On the canister, check the status LED (This icon shows the status LED.). There are three options:

If it is flashing, the canister is ready for initialization. Close the help and return to the initialization wizard to continue with system initialization.

If the status LED is on permanently, the system has already initialized. Proceed to the next step.

If the status LED is not lit and is not flashing, then the canister is still starting and is not ready for system initialization. After the canister is powered on, it can take up to 10 minutes for the canister to be ready for system initialization. Wait for the canister to be ready for system initialization before you repeat this step. If power has been on for at least 10 minutes and the status LED remains off, there is a problem with the canister. Verify that the canister is seated correctly. Restart the initialization process on the reseated canister, if it still does not initialize, the canister is faulty. Insert the USB flash drive in the USB port on the other canister in the enclosure and restart the initialization process on that canister. Contact the support center to replace the faulty canister.

  4. To work with the initialized system, open a supported web browser and enter the IP address that you specified during the initialization wizard. Log on to the system and continue with system configuration by completing the system setup wizard.
Note: You are required to initialize only one of the canisters in the enclosure; the other canister initializes automatically.
