Elastic Storage Server Version 5.1.1 for ppc64le Architecture 
       Package Description - Datamanagement Edition

Elastic Storage Server (ESS) Datamanagement Edition ver 5.1.1 
for ppc64le solution is composed of various components 
tested together for compatibility and correctness. Key 
components are RHEL, IBM Spectrum Scale RAID V4.2.3-2, 
and Power System Firmware.


1.0 Summary of changes in ESS ver 5.1.1 for ppc64le

  a) ESS core 
     - IBM Spectrum Scale V4.2.3 PTF2
     - IBM Spectrum Scale RAID V4.2.3 PTF2
     - Change from all previous versions of ESS

  b) Support of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.2 
     - No change from ESS 5.1.0 and 5.0.2 except errata 
     - See sections 4.4 for further details
     - kernel release 3.10.0-327.55.3.el7.ppc64le

  c) Support of MLNX_OFED_LINUX-4.0-2.0.0.3
     - Change from ESS 5.0.x
     - Change from 4.x and earlier versions
     - No change of network adapter (IB and Ethernet) support
       from ESS 5.0

  d) Support for 10GE Ethernet Adapter (Shiner-T) Copper
     - Same as ESS 5.1

  e) Install Toolkit 
     - Minor fixes from all previous versions of ESS

  f) Updated firmware rpm 
     - Changes from all previous versions of ESS
       - Support for updated drive FW

  g) Support of IBM Elastic Storage Server 5147 and 5148 
     - IBM Elastic Storage Server expansion model 084 (5147-084)
     - IBM Elastic Storage Server Management Server (5148-21L)
     - IBM Elastic Storage Server Data Server (5148-22L)
     
2.0 Information if upgrading from versions 3.5.5 and earlier, 
    4.0.x and 4.5

   You must upgrade to ESS 4.5.2 or a later level to mitigate an
   issue which may damage an IBM Spectrum Scale RAID Recovery Group 
   and associated Network Shared Disks where certain concurrent
   hardware faults along with back levels of firmware and the 
   Linux kernel, may cause many physical disks to appear to be 
   simultaneously unavailable. This in turn may lead an IBM Spectrum 
   Scale RAID Recovery Group to become damaged, and the server to 
   halt, leading to unavailability of the file system using the 
   Network Shared Disks (NSDs) in that Recovery Group or possible 
   data loss.

4.2 ESS ver 5.1.1 is shipped with OFED level 

   MLNX_OFED_LINUX-4.0-2.0.0.3 (OFED-4.0-2.0.0.3) 

   It is installed and upgraded as part of the ESS ver 5.1.1 solution.  
   It is highly recommended not to install or update OFED outside the 
   ESS solution.

4.3 ESS Server Node System Firmware and IBM PCIe3 x8 Cache SAS RAID 
   Internal Adapter Firmware

   IBM Elastic Storage Server Data Server (5148-22L) is used as the 
   IO Server Node and IBM Elastic Storage Server Management Server 
   (5148-21L) is used as ESS Management Server (EMS) node. 
   Following are the level of the system firmware and RAID internal 
   adapter firmware.

4.4 Red Hat Enterprise Linux Level and update considerations

   ESS 5.1.1 release is tested with Red Hat Enterprise 
   Linux 7.2 with Bug Fix Advisory RHBA-2017:1711-1.

   kernel release: 3.10.0-327.55.3.el7.ppc64le

   Once errata kernel is applied it should show
   kernel release: 3.10.0-327.55.3.el7.ppc64le

   User can update RHEL as needed to address fixes and security 
   updates. It is highly recommended to limit errata updates 
   applied to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux  operating system used 
   in the ESS solution to security errata or errata updates requested

4.5 Package location when shipped from factory 

   ESS 5.1.1 package when shipped from factory is located in /home/deploy
   directory of the ESS Management Server (EMS) node. Review /home/deploy 
   directory of the EMS node for other support packages required for this 
   release.
