Initial System Configuration To configure IBM Flex SI Fabric solution starting from a standalone topology, following steps will be taken: - Upgrade and reboot all standalone G8264CS ToR switches and SI4093 embedded switches with IBM Flex SI Fabric images. - Specify SI Fabric ports and SI Fabric related setting at G8264CS ToR switches and reboot again to take effect. - Connect two 10Gb Ethernet cables as SI Fabric links between G8264CS ToR switches and two 10Gb Ethernet cables from each SI4093 embedded switch to each G8264CS ToR switch to attach all switches to the SI Fabric. - After the IBM Flex SI Fabric detected all switch modules are attached, configure all switch modules to bind them into the fabric. - Confirm all switch modules have joined into a single logical switch. - Configure the management IP address and gateway information at the Master and Backup G8264CS ToR switches for future Data and Storage VLAN and port configurations. - Review and refresh FoD license keys at SI4093 embedded switches if needed. For initial system configuration, ISCLI via switch serial console is used to complete this task. Once SI Fabric logical switch is formed, ISCLI via SSH or Telnet and IBM Switch Center over IP SNMP can be used additionally to assist future configuration and management tasks. The ISCLI provides a direct method for collecting switch information and performing switch upgrade and configuration. Using a basic terminal, the ISCLI allows you to view information and statistics about the switch, and to perform any necessary configuration. IBM Switch Center provides consolidated management for a broad range of IBM System Network devices. Switch Center is currently deployed on a standalone server or in a Windows VM partition and uses SNMP to manage and configure associated switch modules. Following IBM Flex SI Fabric solution configuration is performed via ISCLI over switch console port. 3.2.Upgrade and reboot all switch modules with SI Fabric image To participate in IBM Flex SI Fabric logical switch, all standalone G8264CS ToR switches and SI4093 embedded switches need to be installed and reboot with SI Fabric images. The minimum software version of all standalone switches is software version NOS 7.7.5. This can be confirmed by issuing “show version” and “show boot”. Place the IBM Flex SI Fabric images on a TFTP server or FTP server for download and configure all standalone switches to use this TFTP server or FTP server as the image server. Before starting the download, issue “copy hfdp-mode” to set the switch with NOS 7.7.5 to accept SI Fabric images or “copy si-fabric-mode” at switch with NOS 7.8 or later software release. Perform image downloads to the same image location (image1 or image2) at all G8264CS and SI4093 switches and use “reload” to reboot the switches with SI Fabric image. Upon rebooted, all switches boot up with factory default configuration and blank primary and backup configurations. It may be desired to save configurations at external server before this process. After boot up, “show system” and “show boot” can be used to confirm new SI Fabric image is used. 4.0 Support Phone Numbers --------------------------------------------- Information and assistance is available through the Lenovo Web site, chat, email and by phone.
