It is for use with an enclosure that is attached to a ServeRAID 8k, 8k-l, 8s, ServeRAID-MR10k, 10M, M5025, or a MegaRAID 8480 SAS controller. It also contains a firmware update for the MegaRAID 8480 SAS controller, which will be applied if necessary. Please plan an update to the operating system device drivers accordingly 1.2 Limitations - On IBM System x3200 M3, external USB optic drive is required to run this update program disc. 1.3 Problems fixed: - See change history for more details. 1.4 Level of Recommendations and Prerequisites for the update: - None 1.5 Dependencies - The firmware of the MegaRAID 8480 SAS controller must be at a minimum version of 1.03.00-0225 - If attaching a ServeRAID 8i or 8s to the EXP3000 with SATA hard drives installed, the EXP3000 ESM firmware must be at 1.78 or later. 1.6 Update Contents o ibm_fw_esm_1.6_anyos_noarch.iso - Bootable ISO for EXP3000 ESM Firwmare upgrade Disc o ibm_fw_esm_1.6_anyos_noarch.chg - Change history for EXP3000 ESM Firwmare upgrade Disc o ibm_fw_esm_1.6_anyos_noarch.chg - Change history for EXP3000 ESM Firwmare upgrade Disc 2.0 Installation and setup instructions ________________________________________ 2.1 The IBM HBA EXP3000 Update Program will detect if your enclosure requires a firmware update. The first screen will indicate which enclosures, if any need to be updated. All others will be marked OK To confirm that they are at a level equal to the one on this update. After updates have been applied, enclosures should be marked with a status of OK. 2.1.1 Insert the IBM HBA EXP3000 Update Program disc into the optic drive; then, turn on the system. If the system is already turned on, press Ctrl+Alt+Del ro reboot the system to the disc. 2.1.2 If you have a MegaRAID 8480 SAS controller installed, the IBM HBA EXP3000 Update Program will first check the firmware level of the controller. If it is downlevel, the program will update it to 1.03.00-0225 and automatically reboot the system. 2.1.3 Follow the instructions that appear on the screen. NOTE: Each ESM may take up to FOUR minutes to update. Do not reboot or power cycle the system or the enclosure while the update is in progress. 2.1.4 If the status is reported as BAD, please power cycle the system and enclosure then reboot the IBM HBA EXP3000 Update Program to see if the enclosure has been updated. If it hasn't then please call IBM Service and have it replaced. 2.2 Other Instructions / Troubleshooting 2.2.1 If the status is reported as NON-WARRANTED then the IBM HBA EXP3000 Update Program has detected a possible unrecognized enclosure at that location. This enclosure has not been recognized as a qualified and warranted part. Firmware updates will not be applied to enclosure.
