Server administrators can setup a bootable LUN in the SAN through an easy to use configuration utility menu. Please refer to Brocade's webpages for more information concerning the BIOS and firmware for these HBAs at the following URL - http://www.brocade.com/services-support/drivers-downloads/HBA/index.page 2.0 Limitations ----------------- 1. The Brocade Host Bus Adapters support Boot from SAN only when the server is connected to a switch. Boot from SAN is not supported in configurations with direct attach between the server and the target 2. When multiple boot paths are defined, sometimes all paths may not be discovered. In some cases the boot process may fail. Re-discovery of the paths can be initiated from the Boot Device Page and by selecting appropriate Boot Device, followed by a reboot. 3. When configuring HBA BIOS for Boot from SAN, the HBA WWPN may not appear in the fabric’s name server. To fix this, use the BIOS Configuration Utility and select one HBA port at a time from the Adapter list and select target discovery for that port from Boot Device Settings page. 4. For IBM servers (X3500 SYSBIOS 1.64, X3400 SYSBIOS 1.64, X3650 SYSBIOS 1.06/1.10, and X346 SYSBIOS 1.17), a resource issue may not properly display the Brocade BIOS config during the POST phase. It is recommended to disable any onboard disk controllers and PXE boot option. In boot over SAN setup with some IBM servers, the following error messages could be seen during boot up: · “PCI Device Resource Allocation Failure" · "No room for option rom Error 1801" Use the following steps to workaround this issue: · Disable onboard SAS hard drive controller. · If multiple adapters are present on the system and if you see the above mentioned PCI resource allocation failures, then execution of only one option ROM is needed. To disable option ROM of cards other than the first one, use the following steps: o Disabling this option is done within system BIOS setup. o After the system is powered on, press *F1* when prompted. o Select the following menu choices: Advanced Setup PCI Settings PCI ROM Control Execution o Enable option ROM execution for only one slot and disable the option ROM execution for all the other slots. o IBM’s release note can be found at: https://www- 304.ibm.com/systems/support/supportsite.wss/docdisplay?lndocid=MIGR- 65754&brandind=5000008#APPLYCOUNTRY 5. On rare occasions, during a system reboot the message bfa suspend may occur, and the system might not boot properly. You can fix this issue by rebooting your server. 3.0 Installation and Setup Instructions ----------------------------------------- a.
