Product Description

Rational® Developer for System z® Unit Test provides System z functionality, with selected emulated I/O devices. This Program is licensed only for development and test of applications that run on IBM® z/OS®. The Program may not be used to run production workloads of any kind, nor more robust development workloads including without limitation production module builds, pre-production testing, stress testing, or performance testing.

Rational Developer for System z Unit Test v8.0.3.3 is provided for both Desktop User and Server User editions of the product. However, information on the license server only applies to the Server User edition.

System Configuration and Prerequisites

The supported levels of Linux used with Rational Developer for System z Unit Test v8.0.3.3 are the 64-bit version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 and 64-bit version of openSUSE 11.1, 11.2, or 11.3.

Install Rational Developer for System z Unit Test v8.0.3.3 (z1091_803-1-2.41.50)

If you are installing the product for the first time, refer to the IBM Rational Developer for System z : Configuration Guide, SC14-7281-02 . Please be sure that you have installed the appropriate version of Linux and the prerequisites before proceeding to install the product code.
Note: Although Rational Developer for System z Unit Test is a 64 bit program, you must have 32 bit runtime support installed for the installation and operation of the program.
If you have already installed the appropriate version of Linux and the required prerequisites outlined in Redbook SG24-7722, and you are upgrading from Rational Developer for System z Unit Test, to install this level, please proceed to the next step.

The Installation Disc of the Rational Developer for System z Unit Test software media pack includes an installation wizard named RDzUT8033-wizard.bin that creates a set of files that you will use to install Developer for System z Unit Test. The wizard displays the offering license and allows you to select a target directory for storing an additional installation program and the product documentation. After the wizard completes, the additional installation program must be run with superuser authority to complete the installation.

Program installation steps:
  1. As a regular, non-privileged user, start the wizard by clicking on the RDzUT8033-wizard.bin icon in your file manager or by opening a Linux command line, changing to the directory containing the wizard and entering the command ./RDzUT8033-wizard.bin
  2. Follow the prompts in the installation wizard. During this processes you will select your installation language, read and accept the license and specify a location into which the wizard will install the additional installation program and documentation.
  3. Once the additional files are installed by the wizard, open a Linux command line. The command line may be referred to as a terminal on your system.
  4. Switch to the root user id. On most systems, you can change to the root user with the command
      su -
  5. Change to the directory you specified as a target in the wizard. For example: 
      cd "/tmp/Rational Developer for System z Unit Test V8.0.3.3"
  6. Once you have changed to the target directory, run the final installer../z1091_803-1-2.41.50-x86_64
If you are upgrading from a previous release, use the command ./z1091_803-1-2.41.50-x86_64 --refreshall instead.

When you have finished running the install program, use the instructions for configuring your Linux system files located in the second Redbook volume, System z Personal Development Tool: Installation and Basic Use (SG24-7722). For information on the configuration of license servers, see Appendix D. License and serial number servers of the Configuring z/OS 1.12 with IBM Rational Development and Test Environment for System z Guide , SC14-7281-03 or, Appendix D. License and serial number servers of the Configuring z/OS 1.13 with IBM Rational Development and Test Environment for System z Guide , SC14-7281-04.

If you are installing IBM Rational Developer for System z Unit Test on a system that will not use a license server or you are setting up a license server, be sure to plug the USB hardware key into an available USB 2.0 slot. If you are planning to install the USB hardware key in a USB hub make sure that the hub is externally powered, otherwise, you could damage the USB hardware key. Ensure that the system clock is correct before plugging in the USB hardware key. If this is a brand new USB hardware key that has not been activated yet, you will need to install a license updafile to be able to activate the USB hardware key.

If you need to update or obtain a license update file for the USB hardware key, effective with this release, the utility SecureUpdateUtility must be run as root from the /usr/z1090/bin directory.

After making configuration changes to the Linux system files as described in Redbook SG24-7722, be sure to run the command z1090instcheck to check if conditions of your system are favorable for IBM Rational Developer for System z Unit Test. You should run this command from the userid configured to run the Unit Test application. The location of the program is /usr/z1090/bin/z1090instcheck.

1090 Directory Structure

The following is the directory structure set up by the install process. If the structure is not in place, the awsstart command will create it for you.
