Readme File for IBM® Spectrum Conductor 2.5.1 Fix 602258

Readme file for: IBM Spectrum Conductor

Product release: 2.5.1

Update name: IBM Spectrum Conductor 2.5.1 Fix 602258

Fix ID: cws-2.5.1-build602258

Publication date: November 21, 2024

Fix 602258 contains enhancements to address Dask, conda, and Python compatibility issues when upgrading these products to advanced versions after releasing IBM Spectrum Conductor 2.5.1. This fix includes:

·      Support for Python 3.10 usage in both a Jupyter server’s Conda environment and Dask applications code.

·       Support for the latest Anaconda or Miniconda version 4.x deployments.

·       Support for the latest Dask packages (tested with version 2024.11.2) and dask_jobqueue packages (tested with version 0.9.0).

Note that Fix 602258 maintains backward compatibility with older software versions, while the non-IBM software products used with IBM Spectrum Conductor do not always keep such compatibility. Therefore, you might see runtime warning compatibility messages from the newer software versions, which is expected and can be ignored. This has no effect on Dask application runtime functionality and performance.

IBM Spectrum Conductor, Linux x86_64, Linux on POWER 64-bit, cws-2.5.1-build602258

3.    Installation and configuration

Follow the instructions in this section to download and apply this interim fix on hosts in your cluster.

Prerequisites

Fix 601712 and then Fix 601861 must be installed before applying this fix package.

For an environment with IBM Spectrum Symphony, always install IBM Spectrum Symphony 7.3.2 Fix 601711 first, then install IBM Spectrum Conductor 2.5.1 Fix 601712, and finally, install IBM Spectrum Conductor Fix 601861.

System requirements

Linux x86 64-bit, or Linux on POWER 64-bit.

Before installation

Download the installation package for your operating system, to a directory on each of your management and compute hosts (for example, to a /cws251 directory on Linux):

·           For Linux x86:

sc-2.5.1.0_build602258.tgz

conductorsparkcore-2.5.1.0_x86_64_build602258.tar.gz

·           For Linux on POWER 64-bit:

sc-2.5.1.0_build602258.tgz

conductorsparkcore-2.5.1.0_ppc64le_build602258.tar.gz

Note that you will install using the egoinstallfixes command, which requires that your Linux host include the ed Linux line-oriented text editor.

Installation steps

Use the following installation steps for the installation package applicable to your operating system (Linux x86_84 or Linux on POWER).

Complete these steps on primary host in your IBM Spectrum Conductor cluster:

1.       Change to the directory where you downloaded the Fix 602258 packages, find the sc-2.5.1.0_build602258.tgz package, and extract its contents to get the Dask1.1-Conductor2.5.1.tgz file for the Dask component and Jupyter-6.0.0.tar.gz file for Jupyter notebook server.

2.       Launch a browser and clear your browser cache.

3.       Log in to the cluster management console as a cluster administrator.

4.       Ensure that no deployment operations are currently running on “Anaconda Management” page and in any of its “Conda environments” pages (for more details see documentation at https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/spectrum-conductor/2.5.1?topic=planning-creating-anaconda-miniconda-distribution-instance-conda-environment )

5.       Update the Dask 1.1 package on the cluster:

·        Click Resources > Frameworks > Component Management.

·        Click Update.

·        Click Choose File and select the Dask1.1-Conductor2.5.1.tgz package downloaded previously.

·        Click Update.

6.       Update the Jupyter 6.0.0 package to your cluster:

·       Click Resources > Frameworks > Notebook Management, select Jupyter, and click Configure.

·       In the Deployment Settings tab, click Choose File in the Package section.

·       Select the Jupyter-6.0.0.tar.gz package downloaded previously.

·       Click Update Notebook.

7.       If you have any instance groups already using the Dask component and/or Jupyter notebook, apply updates to each of these instance groups:

·        Navigate to Workload > Instance Groups.

·        Select the instance group and click Stop.

·        Click the Available: 1 or Available: 2 link in the Updates column.

·        Click Update.

Complete these steps for each host in your IBM Spectrum Conductor cluster:
1. Log on as the operating system cluster administrator and source your environment:
(BASH) . $EGO_TOP/profile.platform
(CSH) source $EGO_TOP/cshrc.platform

2.     Change to the directory where you downloaded the Fix 602258 packages and run the egoinstallfixes command to install the downloaded conductorsparkcore  package. For example:

·       Linux-x86_64:

egoinstallfixes conductorsparkcore-2.5.1.0_x86_64_build602258.tar.gz

·       Linux-ppc64le:

egoinstallfixes conductorsparkcore-2.5.1.0_ppc64le_build602258.tar.gz

Uninstalling

If required, follow the instructions in this section to uninstall Fix 602258 from your cluster.

1.      Log on to each Linux management and compute host in the cluster and roll back this fix:

(BASH) . $EGO_TOP/profile.platform

(CSH) source $EGO_TOP/cshrc.platform

egoinstallfixes -r 602258

Note that the Dask component and Jupyter notebook packages updated with the fix cannot be rolled back automatically, so you will need to update these two packages to the versions you used before applying this fix.
