Readme file for IBM® Spectrum LSF License Scheduler 10.1 Fix 602016
Abstract
P105123. This fix introduces a new parameter to control how the blcollect (license
collector daemon) command retrieves license usage data from FlexNet
license servers.
Description
Readme documentation for IBM Spectrum LSF License Scheduler 10.1 Fix 602016
including installation-related instructions, prerequisites and co-requisites,
and list of fixes.
This fix addresses the following issue:
Occasionally,
customers experience delays in LSF job scheduling, primarily attributed to delays
in license querying by using lmstat or lmutil. This
delay occurs because the licensing features utilized by certain resources under
LSF License Scheduler management are part of a larger pool of license services,
overseeing thousands of features for over ten thousand end users.
Currently, the third-party tools lmstat and lmutil only
allow retrieving of all features using the -a option, or a single
feature using the -f option. It lacks support for fetching a subset of features from the
entire pool. Given that customers utilize only a small set of features from the
thousands available, enhancing license monitoring by querying per feature,
rather than for all features, can significantly improve efficiency.
This fix introduces the LM_STAT_PER_FEATURE parameter
in the Parameters and ServiceDomain sections
of the lsf.licensescheduler
configuration file to control how the blcollect command
retrieves license usage data from FlexNet license
servers.
LM_STAT_PER_FEATURE
Syntax
LM_STAT_PER_FEATURE=Y|y|N|n
Description
Controls how the blcollect (license
collector daemon) command retrieves license usage data from FlexNet
license servers.
When LM_STAT_PER_FEATURE is set to Y, the blcollect command
retrieves usage data for individual licenses from the license server using the lmstat or lmutil -f commands, rather
than retrieving data for all features using lmstat or lmutil -a commands.
If LM_STAT_PER_FEATURE is set to N, or is not defined,
the blcollect command retrieves data for all features by calling
the lmstat or lmutil -a commands. LM_STAT_PER_FEATURE only
takes effect when the LM_TYPE value is set to FLEXLM. If the LM_TYPE value is
set to RLM, then the LM_STAT_PER_FEATURE parameter will be ignored.
Configure the LM_STAT_PER_FEATURE parameter
to allow LSF License Scheduler to manage a small set of licenses from a license
server that handles hundreds or thousands of licenses. Implementing this
parameter may enhance blcollect's data
collection capabilities. However, do not use this when License Scheduler manages the bulk of
licenses from the license server.
The LM_STAT_PER_FEATURE value set in the. ServiceDomain section
of the lsf.licensescheduler file
overwrites the one defined in Parameters section. If there is no LM_STAT_PER_FEATURE value
defined in the ServiceDomain section, the one
defined in Parameters section
will be used.
Default
Undefined (N).
