Readme file for IBM® Spectrum LSF 10.1 Fix 601629

Abstract

P104909. Fix to allow new jobs to be successfully submitted if the job-level runtime estimate value is greater than the queue-level runlimit value while the value of the JOB_RUNLIMIT_RATIO parameter is 0.

Description

Readme documentation for IBM Spectrum LSF 10.1 Fix 601629 including installation-related instructions, prerequisites and co-requisites, and list of fixes.

This fix addresses the following issues:

While trying to submit a new job with the job-level runtime estimate value as greater than the queue-level runlimit value, the submission is rejected, even if the value of the JOB_RUNLIMIT_RATIO parameter is 0.

This fix introduces a new RESET_ESTIMATE_WITH_QUEUE_RUNLIMIT parameter, to be set in the lsb.params file. It controls whether or not the job submission is allowed, to allow resetting the job-level runtime estimate value to the same value as the queue-level runlimit value, if the RESET_ESTIMATE_WITH_QUEUE_RUNLIMIT is set to Y.

Here are the details of the new RESET_ESTIMATE_WITH_QUEUE_RUNLIMIT parameter:

Syntax

RESET_ESTIMATE_WITH_QUEUE_RUNLIMIT = Y|y|N|n

Description
When the job-level runtime estimate (set by the RUNLIMIT parameter in the lsb.queues file) for a submitted job is larger than the queue-level runlimit value (by default, the JOB_RUNLIMIT_RATIO parameter in the lsb.params file is 0), the job will be rejected. To override this behavior so that the job is not rejected, set this RESET_ESTIMATE_WITH_QUEUE_RUNLIMIT parameter to Y or y in the lsb.params file, so that the job-level runtime estimate value is the same as the queue-level runlimit value.

Default

Not defined. The job will be rejected if the job-level runtime estimate is larger than the queue-level runlimit.

Before you install

LSF_TOP is the full path to the top-level installation directory of IBM Spectrum LSF.

1.      Before you apply this fix, ensure that you install LSF 10.1 Fix Pack 12 or later. You can download Fix Pack 12 from https://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral. Search for build600488. Contact IBM LSF Support if you have any questions or problems with installing Fix Pack 12.

2.      Starting from LSF 10.1 Fix Pack 13, the default values of the following three GPU parameters are changed to:
LSF_GPU_AUTOCONFIG=Y
LSB_GPU_NEW_SYNTAX=extend
LSF_GPU_RESOURCE_IGNORE=Y

If you have installed Fix Pack 13, no further action is needed to set these parameters. If you have installed LSF Fix Pack 12 or earlier, consider explicitly configuring the same values to these three parameters:
LSF_GPU_AUTOCONFIG=N
LSB_GPU_NEW_SYNTAX=N
LSF_GPU_RESOURCE_IGNORE=N

Installation steps

1.      Log on to the LSF management host as the root user and set your environment:
