In
a cluster that includes thousands of compute hosts, VEMKD performance might be
impacted when it evaluates hosts tens of thousands of times for allocation
resource requirements. This interim fix enhances VEMKD performance in a large-scale
cluster with IBM Spectrum Symphony 7.1.2 installed.

Follow the instructions in this section to download and install this interim fix on hosts in your cluster.

Installation
a. Log on to the primary host as the cluster administrator and shut down all the primary and primary-candidate hosts:
> egosh user logon -u Admin -x Admin
> egosh ego shutdown hostname
b. Log on to each Window management host, copy the sym-7.1.2.0-egocore-3.4.0.0_build559601.msp package, and complete one of the following steps:
· For an interactive installation, double-click the sym-7.1.2.0-egocore-3.4.0.0_build559601.msp package and follow the prompts.
· For a silent installation, enter the following command from the IBM Spectrum Symphony command prompt:
C:\>msiexec /update C:\sym-7.1.2.0-egocore-3.4.0.0_build559601.msp /l*v updateSym.log /norestart /quiet REINSTALLMODE=omus
The command syntax is as follows:
C:\>msiexec /update sym_package_name_path /l*v sym_install_log /norestart /quiet REINSTALLMODE=omus
where:
· sym_package_name_path is the fully qualified file name to the .msp package.
· sym_install_log is the log file for the upgrade.
c. Run the pversions command to verify the installation:
> pversions

d. Start the primary host and all primary-candidate hosts:

egosh ego start hostname
If required, follow the instructions in this section to uninstall this interim fix from hosts in your cluster.
a. Log on to the primary host as the cluster administrator and shut down all the primary and primary candidate hosts:
> egosh user logon -u Admin -x Admin
> egosh ego shutdown hostname
b. Log on to each management host in the cluster and roll back to the previous version of IBM Spectrum Symphony, either from Windows Control Panel or from the IBM Spectrum Symphony command prompt:
· To roll back from the Windows Control Panel, go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > View installed updates, click Update for Symphony 7.1.2 (build “557789”), and click Uninstall.
· To roll back from the IBM Spectrum Symphony command prompt, enter the following command:
C:\>msiexec /uninstall {88B5255C-94B1-42D4-ADB1-9DA49A7C75E8} /package {DDF11827-86E3-454C-9FA3-1C19931588EC} /norestart /quiet /l*v sym_rollback.log
The command syntax is as follows:
C:\>msiexec /uninstall interim_fix_code /package product_code /norestart /quiet /l*v rollback_log
where:
o interim_fix_code is the identifier of the .msp package for the interim fix; in this case, {88B5255C-94B1-42D4-ADB1-9DA49A7C75E8}.
o product_code is the identifier of the .msi file in the original product installation package; in this case, {DDF11827-86E3-454C-9FA3-1C19931588EC}.
o rollback_log is the name of the log file to capture details of the interim fix rollback; in this case, sym_rollback.log.
c. Start the primary host and all primary-candidate hosts:
>
egosh ego start hostname
3.4\etc\vemkd.exe
3.4\etc\vemkd.pdb
