File for: IBM Spectrum Symphony
Product
Release: 7.2.1
Update
Name: Interim Fix 550998
Fix
ID: sym-7.2.1-build550998
Publication
Date: June 26, 2020
The host factory of
IBM Spectrum Symphony occasionally overprovisions cloud hosts beyond the
maximum number limit for each template. The overprovisioning occurs if the HostFactory service was restarted after cloud provisioning
requests were submitted. The overprovisioning is caused by an incorrect
recovery of internal state after a service restart.
This
interim fix allows host factory to recover internal state correctly and
preventing overprovisioning of cloud hosts.

Installation
Before you install this interim fix,
verify that all cloud hosts provisioned that uses host factory are returned and
there are no active requests for provisioning or returning cloud hosts.
Tip: If you are using manual provisioning,
wait for active provision and return requests to complete, then return the
provisioned hosts from the GUI or through REST API. If you are using dynamic provisioning, either
reduce the application workload significantly or increase the service
level agreement (SLA) of the configured application, such as desired_task_complete_duration. Wait for host factory to dynamically scale
down and return all the provisioned cloud hosts.
a.
Log on to the master host as the cluster administrator and stop the HostFactory service:
> egosh user logon -u Admin
> egosh service stop HostFactory
b.
Clean up the work directory containing the host factory metadata:
> rm -rf $EGO_CONFDIR/../../eservice/hostfactory/work/*
c.
On each management host:
i. Log on as the
cluster administrator.
ii.
Create
a directory, for example /symfixes directory.
iii.
Download the egocore-3.7.0_x86_64_build550998.tar.gz package into the newly created directory.
iv.
Use the egoinstallfixes command to
install the package:
egoinstallfixes /symfixes/egocore-3.7.0_x86_64_build550998.tar.gz --silent
Important: Running the egoinstallfixes command automatically
backs up the current binary files to a fix backup directory. For recovery purposes of the original files,
do not delete this backup directory.
v.
Use the pversions command to verify the installation:
pversions
-b 550998
d. Log on to the
master host as the cluster administrator and start the HostFactory
service:
> egosh service start HostFactory
5. Uninstallation
If required, follow the instructions in this section to uninstall this interim fix in your cluster.
a.
Log on to the master host as the cluster
administrator and stop the HostFactory service:
> egosh
user logon -u Admin
> egosh
service stop HostFactory
b.
Clean up the work directory
containing the host factory metadata:
> rm -rf $EGO_CONFDIR/../../eservice/hostfactory/work/*
c.
Log on to each management host as the cluster
administrator and roll back this fix:
> egoinstallfixes
-r 550998
d.
Log on to the master host as the cluster
