IBM Spectrum LSF 10.1 Fix 470697 Readme File
Abstract
This fix enhances the scheduler to allow to LSF to more efficiently prune its search space. As a result, scheduling cycle time is improved in some cases.
Description
Readme documentation for IBM Spectrum LSF 10.1 Fix 470697 including installation-related instructions, prerequisites and co-requisites, and list of fixes.
This fix addresses the following issue:
The LSF scheduler process (mbschd) works together with the main daemon (mbatchd) to manage job life cycles. At the beginning of each scheduling session, mbschd gets a snapshot of the cluster state from mbatchd, which includes updates on resource availability and pending jobs. The scheduler then makes scheduling decisions based on this snapshot. The decisions are published to mbatchd to act on.
A long scheduling cycle can lower cluster utilization, since resources released during one scheduling session will not be reallocated until the subsequent scheduling sessionat the earliest. Scheduling session lengths are displayed with the command: badmin perfmon view.
This enhancement improves scheduling performance by making the scheduler process more efficient at pruning its search space. In particular, this can help in some cases in clusters that configure host-based limits (lsb.resources), and guarantee policies (lsb.resources).
No configuration is needed to apply this patch.
