The VEMKD service sometimes restarts when the Microsoft Active Directory (AD) security plug-in is enabled in IBM Spectrum Symphony 7.1.2. This fix prevents the system from unnecessarily restarting.

Installation

1.      Disable your applications, stop services, and shut down the cluster:

> soamcontrol app disable all

> egosh service stop all

> egosh ego shutdown all

2.      Log on to each management host in the cluster, copy the egocore-3.4.0.0_build446142.msp package, and complete one of the following steps:

Interactive installation

Double-click the .msp package to run the IBM Spectrum Symphony installer.

Silent installation

From the command line, enter the following command to run the IBM Spectrum Symphony installer:

C:\>msiexec /update <Sym_package_name_path> /l*v <Sym_install_log> /norestart /quiet REINSTALLMODE=omus

where:

o   <Sym_package_name_path> is the fully qualified file name to the .msp package.

o   <Sym_install_log> is the log file for the Symphony upgrade.

For example, to update a Windows 64-bit management host, enter the following command:

C:\>msiexec /update C:\egocore-3.4.0.0_build446142.msp /l*v updateSym.log /norestart /quiet REINSTALLMODE=omus

3.      Verify the installation. For example:

> pversions

4.      Start the cluster and enable your applications:

> egosh ego start all

> soamcontrol app enable <appName>

Uninstallation

1.      Disable your applications, stop services, and shut down the cluster:

> soamcontrol app disable all

> egosh service stop all

> egosh ego shutdown all

2.      Roll back to the previous version of IBM Spectrum Symphony either from the Windows Control Panel or from the Symphony command line:

o   To roll back from the Windows Control Panel, click Control Panel > Programs and Features > View installed updates.

o   To roll back from the Symphony command line, complete these steps:

a.      Get the package for this interim fix (egocore-3.4.0.0_build446142.msp).

b.      Extract the .msi files from the IBM Spectrum Symphony 7.1.2 package; then get the file with the same prefix as the .msp interim fix package (egocore-*):

C:\>sym-7.1.2.0.exe --extract <directory_to_extract_to>

c.      Enter the following command to roll back the interim fix:

C:\>msiexec /uninstall <Sym_package_name_path> /package <Sym_package_msi_path> /norestart /quiet /l*v <Sym_rollback_log>

where:

<Sym_package_name_path> is the fully qualified file name of the .msp interim fix package.

<Sym_package_msi_path> is the fully qualified file name of the egocore .msi package that you extracted from step b.

<Sym_rollback_log> is the name of the log file to capture details of the Symphony rollback.

For example:

C:\>msiexec /uninstall C:\egocore-3.4.0.0_build446142.msp /package C:\egocore-3.4.0.0.msi /norestart /quiet /l*v rollbackSym.log

3.      Start the cluster and enable your applications:

> egosh ego start all

> soamcontrol app enable <appName>
