IBM Spectrum LSF 10.1 Fix 437340 Readme File

Abstract

RFE #77813. This fix supports specified unit for resource requirements and limits in configuration files and on the command line. This is the phase 2 of RFE #77813.

Description

Readme documentation for IBM Spectrum LSF 10.1 Fix BUILD 437340 including installation-related instructions, prerequisites and corequisites, and list of fixes.

This fix addresses the following issue:

Users want to specify a unit for resource requirements and limits in configuration files and on the command line.

This fix enables users specify a unit for resource requirements (mem, swp, and tmp in select and rusage sections) and limits in lsb.queues, lsb.queues, and lsb.resources, and on the command line for bhosts, brsvadd, brsvmod, bslots, bconf, esub (bsub, bmod, brestart), lsgrun, lshosts, lsload, lsloadadj, lslogin, lsmake, lsmake4, lsmon, lsplace, lsrun.
This fix is the phase 2 of RFE #77813. Phase 1 enables LSF_UNIT_FOR_LIMITS to define a unit for "tmp", which makes the tmp limits value display more clear. Also supports the specified unit in resource requirements and limits on bsub, bmod and brestart. To enable the whole solution, install the patch FIX BUILD 433830 for phase 1 first.

1 Configuration files
lsb.applications supports specified unit in the following sections:
    RES_REQ
    CORELIMIT
    DATALIMIT
    FILELIMIT
    MEMLIMIT
    STACKLIMIT
    SWAPLIMIT

lsb.queues supports specified unit in the following sections:
    RES_REQ
    RESUME_COND
    STOP_COND
    RESRSV_LIMIT
    CORELIMIT
    DATALIMIT
    FILELIMIT
    MEMLIMIT
    STACKLIMIT
    SWAPLIMIT

lsb.resources supports specified unit in the following sections:
    Limit section
        MEM
        SWP
        TMP

    GuaranteedResourcePool sections
        RES_SELECT

    HostExport section
        RES_SELECT

2 Command line
The following commands support specified unit in resource requirements and limits:
bhosts, brsvadd, brsvmod, bslots, bsub, bmod, brestart, lsgrun, lshosts, lsload, lsloadadj, lslogin, lsmake, lsmake4, lsmon, lsplace, lsrun support specified unit in resource requirement.
bconf supports specified unit when object type is limit, and value pair is MEM, SWP, TMP.
esub related binaries bsub, bmod and brestart, support specified unit in:
    LSB_SUB_RES_REQ
    LSB_SUB_RLIMIT_DATA
    LSB_SUB_RLIMIT_RSS
    LSB_SUB_RLIMIT_CORE
    LSB_SUB_RLIMIT_SWAP
    LSB_SUB_RLIMIT_STACK
    LSB_SUB_RLIMIT_FSIZE

3 Limitation
    1) Old mbd can't work with new configuration files with specified unit.
    2) Limit value only support positivie integer, its value with specified unit will round up to a positive integer in conversion. For example, define LSF_UNIT_FOR_LIMITS=GB and configure CORELIMIT=512M, its value will round up to 1.
