IBM Platform Symphony 7.1.1 Interim Fix 389364 Readme File

Abstract

Java Web Start (JavaWS) applications fail to start on Windows x86_64 because libvem cannot find the necessary dependent libraries.


Description

JavaWS applications fail to start because Java Web Start cannot load the necessary libraries.

This fix includes an updated JavaSoamApi.jar file. After applying this fix, JavaWS can successfully start.
 

This interim fix applies only to the following platform:

Windows x86_64

Apply this fix if you have Platform Symphony 7.1.1 installed. Before applying this fix, ensure you also have Windows 7 x86_64 and Oracle Java 1.8 or IBM Java 1.8 installed on the client host.

5.    Installation and configuration

5.1   Before installation

             1. Shut down the cluster.

Log on to the master host as the cluster administrator and run:

C:\>soamcontrol app disable all

C:\>egosh service stop all

C:\>egosh ego shutdown all

5.2   Installation steps

Download and install pssa2015_win-x64-389364.msp on the Platform Symphony cluster.

 

               Interactive installation:

Log in as the local administrator and double-click the Platform Symphony MSP package to run the Platform Symphony installer.

              Silent installation:

1. Log in as the local administrator.

If you are logged in as a domain user in the Administrator group, then run Command Prompt as an administrator (for example, from the Start menu, right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator).

 

2. Run the Platform Symphony installer from the command line using the following command:

C:\>msiexec /update <Symphony_package_name_path> /l*v <Symphony_install_log> /norestart /quiet REINSTALLMODE=omus

Where:

1)  Symphony_package_name_path is the fully qualified file name of the Platform Symphony MSP package in this release.

2)  Symphony_install_log is the log file for the Platform Symphony upgrade.


For example, to install this fix on a Windows management or compute host, run:

C:\>msiexec /update C:\pssa2015_win-x64-389364.msp /l*v updateSym.log /norestart /quiet REINSTALLMODE=omus

5.3   After installation

               1. Verify the installation using the pversions command.

The following output is an example of successfully running the verification command on a management host:

C:\>pversions

Platform EGO 3.3

               2. Start the cluster.

Log on to the master host as the cluster administrator and run:

C:\> egosh ego start all

C:\> soamcontrol app enable <appName>

3. Follow the steps to configure the Java client for JavaWS according to the IBM Knowledge Center:

http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSGSMK_7.1.1/development_sym/java_client_jws_configure.dita; however, in step 1b, use the JavaSoamApi.jar from this fix.

5.4   Uninstallation

               1. Shut down the cluster.

Log on to the master host as the cluster administrator and run:

C:\>soamcontrol app disable all

C:\>egosh service stop all

C:\>egosh ego shutdown all

               2. Roll back your updates.

       Important:

You cannot use the Microsoft Windows "Add/Remove Programs" feature to roll back to a previous Platform Symphony package on a management or compute host.

a.)      Get the Platform Symphony package for Platform Symphony 7.1.1 (for example, pssa2015_win-x64.msi in this case).

b.)      Use the following command to roll back Platform Symphony:

C:\>msiexec /uninstall <Sym_SP_path> /package <Sym_7.1.1_path> /norestart /quiet /l*v <Sym_rollback_log>

 Where:

1) Sym_SP_path is the fully qualified file name of the Platform Symphony MSP package in this release.

2) Sym_7.1.1_path is the fully qualified file name of the Platform Symphony 7.1.1 MSI package.

3) Sym_rollback_log is the log file for the Platform Symphony rollback.

For example, to roll back Platform Symphony on a Windows management or compute host, run:

C:\>msiexec /uninstall C:\pssa2015_win-x64-389364.msp /package C:\pssa2015_win-x64.msi /norestart /quiet /l*v rollbackSym.log

               3. Start the cluster.

Log on to the master host as the cluster administrator and run:

C:\> egosh ego start all

C:\> soamcontrol app enable <appName>

6.    List of files

pssa2015_win-x64-389364.msp, which includes:

soam\7.1.1\w2k3_x64-vc7-psdk\lib\JavaSoamApi.jar

wlp\usr\servers\gui\apps\soam\7.1.1\soamgui\WEB-INF\lib\JavaSoamApi.jar
