IBM Platform Symphony 7.1 Interim Fix 379621 Readme File

Abstract

Three MapReduce-related issues: the MapReduce shuffle service (MRSS) crashes, MapReduce jobs cannot complete, and SSM crashes.

Description

This fix addresses three Map-Reduced related issues:

1) Deleted file descriptors for the MRSS continually increase and will not release when the map input-output enhancement is enabled. This causes the MRSS to not be able to complete the shuffle request.

2) MapReduce jobs remain pending indefinitely, while SI continually restarts, even if the slots are occupied by a session.

3) SSM crashes and restarts occasionally.

This fix applies only to Platform Symphony 7.1 Fix Pack 1 for Linux 64-bit.

4. Installation and configuration

4.1 Before installation

1. Stop the cluster.

> soamcontrol app disable all

> egosh service stop all

> egosh ego shutdown

2. Back up the file.

Log on to every compute host in the cluster and back up the following file that will be replaced by this fix:

> $EGO_TOP/soam/mapreduce/7.1/linux2.6-glibc2.3-x86_64/etc/mrss

Log on to every management host in the cluster and back up the following file that will be replaced by this fix:

> $EGO_TOP/soam/7.1/linux2.6-glibc2.3-x86_64/etc/ssm

4.2 Installation steps

Log on to every host in the cluster and decompress the tar.gz file to your Platform Symphony installation directory:

> tar zxfo sym7.1.0_379621_lnx26-lib23-x64.tar.gz -C $EGO_TOP

4.3 After installation

1. Verify the installation.

Run mrss -V and ssm -V to verify the installation.

The following output shows successful installations:

> mrss -V

2. Start the cluster.

> egosh ego start

> soamcontrol app enable AppName

4.4 Uninstalling

1. Stop the cluster.

> soamcontrol app disable all

> egosh service stop all

> egosh ego shutdown

2. Restore the backup file.

Log on to every compute host in the cluster and restore the backup file:

> $EGO_TOP/soam/mapreduce/7.1/linux2.6-glibc2.3-x86_64/etc/mrss

Log on to every management host in the cluster and restore the backup file:

> $EGO_TOP/soam/7.1/linux2.6-glibc2.3-x86_64/etc/ssm

2. Start the cluster.

> egosh ego start

> soamcontrol app enable AppName
