Elastic Storage Server ver 2.5.4 Package Description - Advanced Edition
Elastic Storage Server (ESS) Advanced Edition ver 2.5.4 solution is
composed of various components tested together for compatibility and
correctness. Key components are RHEL, GPFS Native RAID for ESS, and
Power System Firmware.
1. Summary of changes in ESS ver 2.5.4
a) ESS core
- IBM Spectrum Scale RAID Ver 4 Rel 1.0.8 efix18 (4.1.0-8 efix18)
- No change of GUI from 2.5.3
b) Support of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0
No changes from 2.5.3
c) No changes of OFED from 2.5.3
d) No changes of Install toolkit from 2.5.3
e) Updated firmware rpm to support new drives
and updated enclosure firmware
2. Additional Information if upgrading from 2.5.2
You must upgrade to ESS ver 2.5.4 level if your client nodes use an
InfiniBand network to access ESS. Ver 2.5.4 (as well as versions 2.5.3,
3.0.2, 3.0.3 and 3.0.4) provides a more graceful handling of serious hardware
faults generally triggered by overloaded Infiniband adapter and therefore
better suited to protect client data from such hardware faults.

3.2 ESS 2.5.4 is shipped with OFED level
MLNX_OFED_LINUX-2.3-2.0.5 (OFED-2.3-2.0.5)
It is installed and upgraded as part of the GPFS Native RAID for
ESS solution. It is highly recommended not to install or update
OFED outside the GPFS Native RAID for ESS solution.
3.3 ESS IO Server Node System Firmware and IBM PCIe3 x8 Cache SAS RAID
Internal Adapter Firmware
IBM Power System S822L (8247-22L) is used as the IO Server Node and
IBM Power System S821L (8247-21L) is used as Executive Management
Server (EMS) node. The system firmware and RAID Internal Adapter
Firmware is not expected to be upgraded in the field under normal
operation. Following are the level of the system firmware and RAID
internal adapter firmware.

3.4 Red Hat Enterprise Linux Level and update considerations
ESS 2.5.4 supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0

User can update RHEL as needed to address security updates.
It is highly recommended to limit errata updates applied to the Red
Hat Enterprise Linux operating system used in the ESS solution to
security errata or errata updates requested by service. For more
