Multiple Release Co-existence Support
IBM Parallel Environment Runtime Edition for AIX 1.1.0.9 (PTF9) and
earlier levels do not support the infrastructure for multiple release
level coexistence, when PE 1.2 is also installed. If customers want
to install both PE 1.1 and PE 1.2 on the system, it is recommended that
PE 1.1.0.10 (or later) is installed, plus PE 1.2.0.2 (or later), is required.
PE 1.1.0.10 (or later) and PE 1.2.0.2 (or later) are required to coexist
and switch back and forth between PE 1.1 and PE 1.2 for rolling upgrade support.
PE 1.2 and PE 1.1.0.10 introduces a new directory structure that simplifies
the symbolic links that PE Runtime Edition creates and maintains. The 'pelinks'
script has been updated in these levels of PE. As a result, customers wanting to
do a "rolling upgrade" (upgrading subsections of the cluster with newer levels of
software) must install PE 1.1.0.10 (or later) as the default level on all nodes.
This will enable multiple PTF and release levels to coexist, and provides the
ability to uninstall cleanly.
If the whole cluster is not updated with the same levels of PE on all the nodes,
then the scheduler should be used to create resource pools to segregate the nodes.
