Installation Instructions

To install the CICS Configuration Manager plug-in, there are two options:

1. Add the IBM-hosted CICS Configuration Manager plug-in update-site to the CICS Explorer and install it from there: http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/htp/cics/updates/cm/2.1/latest/.
2. Or alternatively download a zipped version of the update-site and install it locally; (known as an archive update-site).

An advantage of using the IBM-hosted update-site is that it is kept up-to-date with the latest version. Users can search for any available updates to the CICS Configuration Manager plug-in periodically within the CICS Explorer. They can choose if and when to install them at their convenience. Alternatively the user can choose to get the CICS Explorer to automatically search for updates and inform the user when they become available.

Otherwise updates can be downloaded on demand from Fix Central, but users will need to check the Fix Central website for any further updates available, and download them as appropriate. Fix Central: http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/

Installation via the Update-Site

To update the CICS Configuration Manager plug-in using the IBM-hosted update-site follow the instructions below:

Note: The location for the IBM hosted update-site was moved after version 2.1.0.7. If you updating version 2.1.0.7 or below you will need to remove the existing update site and add the new one.

1. Launch the CICS Explorer
2. Click Help on the CICS Explorer menu bar and click Software Updates in the drop-down menu. The Software Updates and Add-ons window is displayed.
3. Click the Available Software tab.
4. The first time an update or install of the CICS Configuration Manager plug-in is done the update-site needs to be added to the CICS Explorer. On subsequent updates the following step can be skipped.
   • Click the Add Site button and in the Add Site dialog type in the following update-site into the Location text box: http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/htp/cics/updates/cm/2.1/latest/. Click OK.
     • Note: This will search for all updates to Version 2.1 of the CICS Configuration Manager plug-in. This is the recommended update-site. However to only search for updates to version 2.1.0.x use: http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/htp/cics/updates/cm/2.1/2.1.0/.
5. On an initial install of the CICS Configuration Manager plug-in only: Select the check-box alongside the tool name, and click Install...
6. Alternatively verify that the correct update site is present to update the existing installation. Installations prior to version 2.1.0.7 may have an old update site entry which will need to be removed and the current one added.
   • To verify that there is an existing update-site present, and it's correct, click the Available Software tab and click Manage Sites...
   • Verify that the correct update site location is present and its checkbox checked. There should be an entry to: http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/htp/cics/updates/cm/2.1/latest/.
   • If an existing update-site pointing to the old location is present remove it by selecting it and click the Remove button. The previous URL was: http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/htp/cics/updates/cm/.
   • If the correct entry isn't present, add the new location by clicking the Add... button and enter the following URL into the Location text box: http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/htp/cics/updates/cm/2.1/latest/
     • Note: This update-site above will look for any update to Version 2.1 of the CICS Configuration Manager plug-in, including new modification levels. This is the recommended update-site to use. To explicitly choose updates for a specific modification level you can choose: http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/htp/cics/updates/cm/2.1/2.1.0/. This will contain all updates for 2.1.0.x but any new modification levels in the future will not be included. Using the 'latest' update-site will ensure all updates for Version 2.1 will be available.
   • If you've added the update-site you want to the Location text box click the OK button.
   • Click OK to leave the Available Software Sites dialog and return to the Software Updates and Add ons dialog.
7. Once the updated update-site URL has been verified to be present, select the Installed Software tab, and then click Update...
   • The update-site will be checked and a dialog will appear indicating if an update is available. If no update is currently available then your version of the CICS Configuration Manager plug-in is up-to-date, and no update is necessary.
8. If an update is available for the CICS Configuration Manager plug-in, an Update dialog box will appear (for a new install an Install dialog will appear). Confirm the installation by clicking Finish.
9. The CICS Configuration Manager plug-in is then installed/updated, and you'll be asked to restart to apply the changes. Click Yes to restart the CICS Explorer with the CICS Configuration Manager plug-in now installed and up-to-date.

Installation via Fix Central

To update the CICS Configuration Manager plug-in from Fix Central follow the instructions below:

1. Launch the CICS Explorer
2. Click Help on the CICS Explorer menu bar and click Software Updates in the drop-down menu. The Software Updates and Add-ons window is displayed.
3. Click the Available Software tab.
4. Click the Add Site button and in the Add Site dialog click the Archive button. The Repository archive dialog box is displayed.
5. Locate and select the CICS Configuration Manager plug-in zip file you downloaded previously, and click Open.
6. Click OK in the Add Site dialog box. The dialog box closes and the tool is displayed in the Software Updates and Add-ons dialog box.
7. On an initial install of the CICS Configuration Manager plug-in only: Select the check-box alongside the tool name, and click Install...
8. Alternatively to update an existing CICS Configuration Manager plug-in installation select the Installed Software tab, and then click Update...
   • The update-site will be checked and a dialog will appear indicating if an update is available. If no update is currently available then your version of the CICS Configuration Manager plug-in is up-to-date, and no update is necessary.
9. If an update is available, or for the initial install of the CICS Configuration Manager plug-in, an Update or Install dialog box will appear respectively, confirm the installation by clicking Finish.
10. The CICS Configuration Manager plug-in is then installed/updated, and you'll be asked to restart to apply the changes. Click Yes to restart the CICS Explorer with the CICS Configuration Manager plug-in now installed and up-to-date.
