Instructions for installing IBM Sterling Connect:Direct for UNIX maintenance

Please note the following before beginning this procedure:

        Note 1:  The cdinstall script referenced below should be
                 run by the userid that owns the C:D UNIX installation
                 directory.

        Note 2:  You will need root privileges to complete this 
                 procedure.

        Note 3:  The maintenance files are full installation files
                 and can be used for a new installation.  To do so,
                 follow steps 2 and 3 below, and then refer to the
                 Installing Connect:Direct for UNIX chapter of the
                 Connect:Direct for UNIX Getting Started Guide for
                 further installation instructions.

       Note 4:  The cdinstall script incorporates backup/restore
                functionality.  If you select the UPGRADE option
                when cdinstall detects an existing installation, you
                will be given a prompt to perform a BACKUP of the
                existing installation.  We recommend choosing this
                option.  If the upgrade fails for any reason, the
                cdinstall script can be invoked and will detect
                the existence of the backup file and give you the
                option to RESTORE the previous installation.


1. Shutdown Connect:Direct for UNIX.  This is important to assure all
   replacement modules are installed correctly.


2. If you obtained the maintenance installation file from the Web 
   site, FTP Server, or Fix Central, you will need to uncompress it.

   For example:

      uncompress 4.1.0.2-SterlingConnectDirectforUNIX-AIX-pSeries-fp0002.Z

   On some Linux systems, the uncompress command does not exist, but 
   "gzip -d" will work in its place. 

3. Extract the installation script from the maintenance installation 
   file on all systems except Linux with the following cpio command:

      cpio -civdmB < DEVICE cdinstall

   where DEVICE is the full path to the maintenance installation file.

   For example:

      cpio -civdmB < /cdent/cdu4.1.0/4.1.0.2-SterlingConnectDirectforUNIX-AIX-pSeries-fp0002 cdinstall
                    
   For Linux systems, use the following cpio command:

      cpio -ivdmB < DEVICE cdinstall

4. Run the cdinstall procedure:

      cdinstall

   This procedure will:

      a) Ask for your C:D UNIX installation directory with a prompt
         similar to the following:

            Enter the FULL path of the Connect:Direct for UNIX 4.1.0.x installation directory.
            You can use $HOME to shorten the name:[$HOME/cdunix]

         Respond with your fully qualified C:D UNIX installation
         directory, for example:

            /opt/applications/cdunix

         You will then be given the option to create a backup of the 
         existing Connect:Direct installation.

      b) Ask for the location of the maintenance installation file with
         the following prompt:

            Enter the path and filename where the installation file is mounted or
            where the ESD portal download is extracted (e.g. /cdrom/IBM/cdunix): 

         Respond with the fully qualified directory and filename of the 
         maintenance installation file, for example:

            /cdent/cd4.1.0/4.1.0.2-SterlingConnectDirectforUNIX-AIX-pSeries-fp0002

         The procedure will then update the Connect:Direct installation, 
         including detected options, like C:D File Agent.

   When the procedure requests root privilege, then:

      a) If you know the root password, or have a system administrator standing 
         by who knows the root password, then answer 'yes' when the cdinstall 
         script prompts for actions that require the root password.

      b) If you don't have access to the root password, but can use 'sudu' or some 
         other utility consistent with your company's security policies to acquire 
         root privileges, then answer 'no' when the cdinstall script prompts for 
         actions that require the root password, and after the cdinstall script is 
         finished:

         1) acquire root privilege with sudo or another method that is consistent 
            with your company's security policies

         2) execute the following script:

               {the C:D UNIX installation directory}/etc/cdcust

            and select the option to "Set owner and permissions of C:D executables" 


After installing maintenance, it may be necessary to recompile/relink
API programs and user exits.  Please refer to the fixlist to see what
has changed since you last applied maintenance, and whether a recompile/
relink is recommended.
