About this Interim Fix

This Interim Fix updates the private JRE used by the Legacy Component Manager. The Legacy Component Manager is the Component Manager that runs in Process Task Manager on the Workplace XT or Workplace server.

This Interim Fix resolves the Bar Mitzvah exploit, the Logjam exploit, and several issues that were addressed in the April 2015 Java Critcial Quarterly Patch Update.

This Interim Fix updates the private JRE used by the Legacy Component Manager to IBM version 1.6.0 SR16 FP5 for all platforms.

The updated JRE is a cumulative fix from the Java perspective. It includes all previously released JRE fixes (e.g., POODLE and FREAK).

This Interim Fix itself is not cumulative. That is, it does not include all the fixes in earlier interim fixes. But this interim fix can be installed on top of earlier interim fixes without conflicting with an earlier interim fix because this fix updates only the Legacy Component Manager's private JRE.

See the Interim Fix contents (APARs) section of this Readme for a list of fixes in this Interim Fix.

Prerequisites

This Interim Fix has been qualified and tested when installed on top of a 5.2.0.3-P8CPE-IF006 configuration. Because it is only updating the JRE for the legacy Component Manager, it can likely be used with older fix packs of CPE 5.2.0, although that has not been explicitly tested.

Installing and configuring this Interim Fix

Server update

None.

Client update

5.2.0.3-P8CPE-CLIENT-platform-IF007 consists of a manually installed JRE update that is needed only for the legacy Component Manager.

Installing on the legacy Component Manager clients

  1. Back up the contents of the Router directory on the Application Engine server. The locations are:

    Workplace
    install_path/FileNet/AE/Router (UNIX)
    install_path\FileNet\AE\Router (Windows)

    Workplace XT:
    install_path/FileNet/WebClient/Router (UNIX)
    install_path\FileNet\WebClient\Router (Windows)

  2. If the legacy Component Manager is running, go to the Process Task Manager application to stop it, then close Process Task Manager.
  3. (Windows only) From the Windows Services Console, stop the Process Application Engine Services Manager Service (for Application Engine) or the Process WP XT Services Manager (for Workplace XT).
  4. Important All FileNet P8 Java processes using the JRE that is being updated must be stopped before proceeding with the installation.

  5. Rename the current install_path/Router/java folder to install_path//Router/javabackup
  6. Download the 5.2.0.3-P8CPE-CLIENT-platform-IF007.tar.gz file or 5.2.0.3-P8CPE-CLIENT-WIN-IF007.zip file, and extract contents into the Router directory on the Application Engine server.

This will create a new install_path/Router/java folder containing the updated JRE.

  7. (Windows only) From the Windows Services Console, restart the Process Application Engine Services Manager Service (for Application Engine) or the Process Workplace XT Services Manager (for Workplace XT).
  8. Restart Process Task Manager and the legacy Component Manager.
  9. Repeat this procedure on all Application Engine servers that are running the legacy Component Manager software on Workplace or Workplace XT.

Removing the Interim Fix

You can uninstall this interim fix by stopping the legacy Component Manager (and any other java processes using that JRE) and renaming the javabackup folder as java.
