This document provides information about the IBM® FileNet® PRINT-4.4.0-018 fix pack.

Notes

OpenText/RightFax customers:

The cumulative fix from Open Text for the defects 751551, 769241, 790840, 791325 and 802459 requires RightFax 9.3 + Fix Pack 2 + Service Release 6.

Windows Server 2008

            Print 4.4 Fix Pack 17 and up support Windows Server 2008 with the User Account Control (UAC) turned off.  To turn off the UAC:

            Step 1: From the Start menu, select Control Panel.

            Step 2: In Control Panel, double click on User Accounts

            Step 3: Click on Turn User Account Control on or off link

            Step 4: Uncheck the Use User Account Control (UAC) check box

            Step 5: Reboot the computer when prompted

Windows Update Problem

 

Problem description

Installation of Microsoft KB Updates and/or usage of Internet Explorer 7.0 are known to cause IBM FileNet Print Service Control to fail to start.

Resolution

The reason for these issues is that when the MS security KB's in question are installed, they use shared memory addresses that conflict with FileNet's shared memory addresses.  There is a mechanism built in to SysV.dll module to circumvent this issue by changing the starting shared memory address through a registry entry.  Follow this procedure to set the starting shared memory address:

  1. Open the Task Manager to kill PrintCtl.exe process.
  2. Install IBM FileNet Print 4.4 Fix Pack 17 or later.
  3. Start the C:\FNSW\bin\ipc_daemon.exe by double-clicking on it if it has not been running.
  4. Run IBM FileNet Print Service Control.  This will trigger SysV.dll to generate a file to be used in the next step.
  5. Rename C:\FNSW\etc\shm_s_xxxx_xxxx.reg.txt to shm_s_xxx_xxx.reg (remove the .txt extension) and double-click on it to execute it.  The necessary registry entry will be added.
  6. Open the Task Manager to kill ipc_daemon.exe and PrintCtl.exe processes
  7. Restart IBM FileNet Print Service Control.

Installation, migration, upgrade, and configuration

Requirements

The following component must be installed before installing this fix pack:

Print 4.4

Install this fix pack

Download the fix pack to a local directory on the Print server.

Stop the Print Services by clicking on the Stop button on the Application dialog FileNet Print Service Control.

Close the dialog box.

Double-click the self-extracting file Print-4.4.0-018.exe to initiate the installation of the fix pack.

Click Next on each of the wizard screens, until the Ready to Install the Program dialog displays.

Click Install on the Ready to Install the Program wizard dialog.

On the Install Shield Wizard Completed dialog, ensure the option to restart the computer is selected, then click Finish.

Uninstall this fix pack

Stop the Print Services by clicking on the Stop button on the application dialog FileNet Print Service Control.

From the Windows® Control Panel, select the Add or Remove Program option.

Select FileNet Print 4.4 Patch 18 and click the Remove button. Click Yes when prompted to confirm the uninstall request.

Restart the server.
