Terminology

x86 -  This term is used to reference the legacy HMC that runs on x86/Intel/AMD  hardware for both the 7042 Machine Type appliances and the Virtual HMC that can run on the Intel hypervisors (KVM, VMWare, Xen).

ppc64 or ppc64le - describes the Linux code that is compiled to run on Power-based servers or LPARS (Logical Partitions)

PTF MH01853 - for 7042 Machine Types or vHMC for x86 hypervisors (5765-HMW)

This package includes an interim fix for the HMC V9 R1 release to be used as a prerequisite before updating to HMC V9 R1 M940. You can also reference this package by PTF MH01853 and APAR MB04200.  This special fix image can be installed on top of HMC Version 9 Release 1 M910 (PTF MH01733) with or without any additional PTFs or service packs.

PTF MH01854 - for 7063 Machine Types or vHMC for PowerVM (5765-HMB)

This package includes an interim fix for the HMC V9 R1 release to be used as a prerequisite before updating to HMC V9 R1 M940. You can also reference this package by PTF MH01854 and APAR MB04243.  This special fix image can be installed on top of HMC Version 9 Release 1 M910 (PTF MH01735) with or without any additional PTFs or service packs.

Installation notes:
  • This PTF can be installed on any level of V9. However, IBM recommends applying this PTF with the following installation order:
First update to V9R1 M931(refer to Update(s) for HMC V9R1 for pre-requisites), install MH01854, then update to V9R1M940.
  • For some environments, the mandatory reboot after update may appear to hang at the "Updating UID and GID of HMC Functional users" step for up to a few hours. The HMC console will show a message similar to the ones below.
Updating UID of ccfw from 1001 to 601...
    or
Updating GID of ccfw from 1001 to 601...
In those cases, the update is still in progress, and it is critical that the installation be allowed to finish. Any interruption to the installation during that part of the update could result in having to reinstall the HMC.
