The default values apply to newly created users. * The option to change the HMC hardware clock has been removed. It is set to UTC by default to prevent double time changes during daylight savings time. List of fixes *General fixes* * Fixed an issue that prevented managed system call home from working when the primary HMC could not be established in environments where frame (BPC) connections exist in either Connected or No Connection state resulting in HMC call home SRC E3326701. * Fixed the Korean keyboard - "Won" sign (E 13 L1) issue. * Fixed an issue where the Discover HMC Call Home list would show unsupported (lower version) HMC systems. * Fixed an issue where users may not be able to log into the UI with "ERROR STATUS : 500 ERROR CODE : UNKNOWN INTERNAL ERROR." after encountering HMC file system errors from an abnormal shutdown of the HMC. * Fixed an issue where LPM validation on a partition with partition mobility disabled did not return an error. * Fixed the garbage characters issue caused by a conflict in selection of non-UTF-8 and UTF-8 locale between HMC and Browser locale * Show warning popup when user tries to change HMC time, when BMC is enabled with NTP * Fixed junk characters being displayed in dashboards such as "Console settings", "Console Management", etc. when non UTF-8 locale is set. * Improved error message that occurs during partition activation from enhanced GUI due to network interruption in the absence of the profile. * Fixed the null pointer exception SRC E3550701 with UIFramework when browser is closed while the task is starting. * Fixed issue to show proper error message when sftp user password expires during backup process. * SRC E35507B1 will proactively be reported when an ethernet interface media speed is set to auto negotiate and it negotiates only half duplex. * Fixed an issue where HMC doesn't retain keyboard settings after updating HMC. * Enhanced the command line parser to provide special handling of parameter values that start with "\-". This allows parameter values that start with "-" to be input on any command by double escaping the value (for example, by typing "--vnetwork \\-100"). * Improved the enhanced UI error message for the failure in re-fetch of any resource (like ManagedSystem, LogicalPartition etc). The complete error message now is read as: " Unable to retrieve an equivalent object after the requested operation. Reason for failure: (the original error message). Note that this does not mean that the POST operation failed." * Enhanced the Update Access Key console warning messages to make it clear that the latest server firmware may not be able to be loaded when the key expires. * In 'All Partitions' view, the partition description field is populated now. The same is being populated in '/rest/api/uom//LogicalPartition//quick' REST API response. * Removed bmc_versions from the valid attribute list for the lssyscfg -r sys command. User can use sp_version instead, for both BMC & FSP. * Fixed an issue where PCM status is displayed incorrectly and not refreshed after an HMC update. * Fixed an intermittent issue of new lpar disappearing shortly after being created which was caused by CEC going to No Connection state temporarily. * Fixed an issue to increase the VIOS template’s default value for memory because it was too low to complete an install. * Allow Idle Power Saver with max frequency on POWER9 * Changes in IE 11 caused the UI to show Japanese messages though English is set as preferred language. Updated UI to recognize this change in IE. * Fixed the high CPU utilization alert call home SRCs E212E150 and E212E151 caused by unnecessary parallel execution of Java processes performing periodic transactions. * Updated Help menu to point to POWER9 Knowledge Center documents * Fixed network bridge creation failure in the absence of backing devices on VIOS, even though tagged virtual network is selected. The HMC clock type can no longer be changed from UTC. Known issues and Limitations * It’s a current limitation that Accessibility-Dashboard panels' menu items are not accessible with JAWS. This will be addressed in future releases. * In Chrome, while exporting system plan, it is getting downloaded in invalid format since chrome does not identify .Sysplan as a valid file format. To overcome this, the user has to save the system plan to a user specified filename - This can be done either using "save link as" option by the UI or use the browser’s "Ask Where to Save each file before downloading" feature. And save the file with the filename in this format - "fileName.sysplan" (in quotes). * Handle system control unit for E880 and E980 models. This issue is due to system control unit which is not recognized by HMC. It can be HMC generated system plan of these models converted on SPT or a HMC generated system plan with system control unit, the extra system control unit is not recognized by the HMC system plan deploy flow and hence it fails. Workaround for this issue is to re-capture the system plan on the CEC after powering it on in "hardware discovery" mode and not use SPT generated system plans for these models to deploy system plan. These system plans can how ever be imported to HMC for view purpose. The error returned is "System plan expansion unit UXXXX.XXX.XXXXXX, type XXXX not valid as planned. The managed system has no type units of type XXXX." "The system plan cannot be deployed because the hardware that is required by the system plan does not match the hardware description found for the managed system." * If the UI was kept open during an HMC update, sometimes tasks might fail after an update with "Error launching task" , Browser can be restarted to recover from this issue. * PowerSC MFA server version 1.2 is not supported. * For Rest API sessions, idle session timeout behavior is the same as the session timeout i.e., if a non-zero idle session timeout is specified, the rest api session will become invalid after the idle session timeout value has been reached. * When an SRIOV adapter is changed from dedicated to shared mode, it goes through several intermediate states. Depending on when you open the GUI panel, it can show the adapter state as missing. Refreshing the browser should get the latest adapter status. * There is no mechanism available to prevent user from turning off the MSP setting of a VIOS partition in the middle of a migration operation. Turning off the MSP attribute causes migration to fail. * Rarely, all the Shared-Storage-Pool-Clusters window loses connection due to browser being heavily loaded. Refreshing the browser should overcome this issue. * GUI goes to unresponsive state after creating a group with more than 500 resources. Refreshing the browser should overcome this issue. * Cluster page may not open or takes more time to open if there is any issue with storage subsystem. * Whenever an error happens during Hardware Discovery where it fails to delete the IOR Collection LP, the LPAR will be displayed in UI and operations attempted on the partition might fail. If the IOR Collection LP is not deleted automatically, delete the lpar manually * Customer might see that label and sub-label of an SRIOV physical port might not be updated properly, when user tries to update the label and sub-label continuously for 7 to 8 times. This issue is intermittent. * Security restrictions: o *In NIST mode*: + RMC code on partition does not support two HMC connections with mixed configuration i.e. one HMC running in NIST mode and other one in non-NIST mode. Both the HMCs must be in the same mode. o *In non-NIST mode*: + Following ciphers are not supported although the available cipher list shows them. TLS_RSA_FIPS_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA Note this function is fully supported for all other Power systems assuming that the appropriate HMC, firmware and PowerVM levels installed. o The GUI does not support disconnected sessions like the previous Classic GUI did. In the GUI a session logoff is a logoff and a session disconnect is also a logoff. This means that the user cannot reconnect to a GUI session to resume a task(s) from where it left off. Every login via the GUI creates a new session. For more details on long running tasks, please refer to the link below: http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/POWER9/p9eh6/p9eh6_loginmode.htm o In some rare situations, especially with a Firefox browser, the user may be redirected to a second login page after login credentials have been validated. Providing the login credentials again will fail. If this issue occurs, close and relaunch the browser. If the login page locally shows "Console internal error" and "The requested resource is not available", the framework is still initializing. Wait a minute and restart the desktop on the local console using o Enabling or disabling service processor redundancy is only permitted when both primary and secondary service processors are at standby with service processor in position A as primary. The workaround is to set up service processor failover with the following command: *chsyscfg –m **-r sys –i "sp_failover_enabled=1"* o Launch of the ASMI menu is not supported using the Safari browser. Web browser requirements Learn about the requirements your web browser must meet to monitor and control the HMC. Notes for the Virtual Appliance for PowerVM : * On Power9 servers, the HMC Virtual Appliance for PowerVM must run in Power8 compatibility mode, for this release. * The HMC Virtual Appliance for PowerVM does not provide graphics adapter support for adapters assign to the partition. Use a supported web browser to point to the HMC for UI support. * DLPAR operations such as memory and processor moves for HMCs running in an LPAR are not supported. * Inactive partition migration and Simplified Remote Restart operations are supported. * The virtual appliance for PowerVM requires a Power8 or Power9 server that is enabled for little endian support. Minimum System Firmware 860 recommended for Power8 servers. * vHMC for PowerVM cannot manage the server it is hosted on. Installation of vHMC for LPARs: http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/POWER8/p8hai/p8hai_vhmc_pvm.htm Back to top General Virtual HMC notes * Virtual HMC Appliance can be deployed in your existing POWER virtualized infrastructure. Virtual HMC Appliance supports install into PowerVM LPARs. * Call home of serviceable events with a failing MTMS of the HMC itself is disabled. Those serviceable events should be manually reported to IBM software support. * To see if you are running on a virtual HMC use the lshmc -v command. If it displays a UVMID field, then you are running in a virtual machine. Example: lshmc -v "vpd=*FC ???????? *VC 20.0 *N2 Thu Sep 14 15:02:44 UTC 2017 *FC ???????? *DS Hardware Management Console *TM Vc87-f0a *SE 7f61457 *MN IBM *PN N/A *SZ 8371892224 *OS Embedded Operating Systems *NA 127.0.0.1 *FC ???????? *DS Platform Firmware *RM V8R8.7.0.0 **UVMID c87f:0a7f:603a:1457* " * When deploying a virtual HMC, if the mac address is not specified, it will be generated by the hypervisor. Network configuration on the HMC relies on the value of MAC addresses. If you re-deploy a new virtual HMC and want to restore critical console data previously taken on a virtual HMC, ensure sure you are using the same MAC addresses. * When using Activation Engine to setup NTP configuration, you must specify the NTP version value. * We recommend upgrading to the new image that uses 500GB by following the steps below: o From the current HMC version (e.g. HMC V8.860.0), upgrade to HMC V9 R1 M910 o When the upgrade is complete the HMC is now at a new version but still has a 160GB disk. o Perform a Critical Console Data backup, excluding network information and store the backup to a remote location. o Deploy the new HMC V9 R1 M910 image which uses a 500GB disk. o After the HMC boots up with the 500GB disk, restore the Critical Console data.
