This package represents the Recovery image that can be used to upgrade your HMC from HMC V6R1.3.0 or higher to HMC V7R7.7.0. This package can also be used to install a clean version of HMC V7R7.7.0. You can also reference this package by APAR MB03664 and MB03670.

• When two HMCs manage the same server, both HMCs must be at the same version. After the server is connected to the higher version of the management console, the partition configuration is migrated to the latest version. Lower management consoles will not be able to understand the data properly. After the server is managed by N level of management console version, should you want to go back with N-1 management console version, then you must initialize the server. You can restore a backup taken at the older level or recreate the partitions. If the server is not initialized, partition configuration corruption can occur when you use lower levels of management consoles.
• HMC V7R760 was the last release supported on models 7310-C04 and 7310-CR2. Future HMC releases are not supported on C04 or CR2.
• If an HMC is used to manage any POWER7 processor based server, the HMC must be a model CR3 or later model rack-mount HMC or C05 or later deskside HMC.
• When IBM Systems Director is used to manage an HMC or if the HMC manages more than 254 partitions, the HMC should have 3GB of RAM minimum and be CR3 model or later rack-mount or C06 or later deskside.
• HMC Version 7.7.1 supports managing a maximum of 48 servers (non Power 590/595 models) or 32 IBM Power 590/595 servers with a maximum of 1024 partitions across the managed servers.
• The following HMC System plan functions are not implemented for POWER7 servers:
  • Create system plan (mksysplan) capture of VIOS provisioning info (storage pools, etherchannels, shared ethernet adapters)
  • Deploy system plan Auto-install of VIOS, AIX and Linux partitions.
  • Auto-provisioning of storage pools, shared ethernet adapters and etherchannels by system plan deployment.
  • Power blades are not support for any system plan operation.
• Upgrading from HMC V6R1.3 requires the installing of PTF MH01127 (APAR MB02828).
• Upgrading from HMC V7R3.1.0 requires PTF MH01135 (APAR MB02661).
• The DHCP range choices of 9.6.24.x and 9.6.25.x are no longer available as DHCP server range selections in the HMC GUI for V7. The POWER 595 FHA/FHB system internal network utilizes this range. If a V6 HMC is upgraded to V7 and a POWER 595/FHA system addition is planned, change the range to an alternate available selection prior to introducing the system to the HMC. For all other system environments the range can still be used but is not visible in the GUI.
• Certificates and keyring files generated by the System Manager Security application (on HMC Version 6) will not be migrated to HMC Version 7. Applications such as remote 5250, which import the public key ring file to establish a secure connection with HMC, will need to import a new public key. This package provides the following and enhancements and fixes:

• A GUI enhancement on recovery panel for LPM operation. This fix retains the Migration Recovery panel, along with values you enter, if "recover" option returns with failure. This helps you use the same screen to recover the partition with force option. Otherwise you have to restart the recover operation by selecting the "recover" menu option again.
• A GUI enhancement has been made to display the error message with required line breaks for migration validation operations.
• A GUI enhancement has been made to retain the suspend/resume validation panels if suspend/resume validation shows only warning messages.
• Support for transitioning IVM managed servers and blades to HMC. This includes preserving the current partition configuration.
• Add a GUI enhancement for the installation of VIOS, allowing the user to install the Virtual I/O Server and managing Virtual I/O Server images using a GUI interface.
• Improved the method used to remove resources from suspended/powered off partitions to improve affinity.
• Added support for viosvrcmd to mount device using "/export" keyword.

This package provides the following fixes:

General fixes

• Fixed RMC 1021 error code encountered in Hibernation or LPM operations due to a crash in LparCmdRM.
• Fixed error "java.util.StringTokenizer:nextToken Line:183" in mksysplan caused by a "/" in LPAR name and a "," in the wwpnlist of VFC clients.
• Enabling the time reference setting for a lpar that is restricted io mode capable or lpar suspend capable causes the activate to fail with an extended error.
• The IBM License Agreement for Machine Code page does not display IBM Logo due to a broken image file link.
• Fixed a problem with RMC unable to establish a connection to partitions if IPv6 is used on the HMC without a name server defined.
• Fixed a problem with network install during altdiskboot where it would fail at grub when installing a release older than V7R750 on a V7R750 or higher HMC.
• Fixed "illegal data" error when attempting to mount with the viosvrcmd if the mount point has the keyword "export" in its path.
• Fixed error"awk: command not found" that occurred when running the monhmc -r proc command.
• Fixed a problem with the creation of Virtual Ethernet Switches when using chhwres command in a script that could cause a previous switch definition to be overwritten.
• Fixed an issue with lssyscfg not showing the correct partition placement value for a managed system running firmware 740 or higher.
• Fixed a problem with the chhmcldap command not setting the LDAP scope value.
• Fixed an issue with the erroneous reporting of SRC E212E121 during an HMC install upgrade process.
• Fixed a problem with exception handling during the query and setting of the DVD repository on a VIOS that could result in error HSCL400D.

• Fix to allow definition of a Kerberos user account with a name different from the principal name.

• Fixed an issue with concurrent partition migration operations resulting in error HSCL3202 "Failed to acquire lock because of timeout or stated Migrating/Running".
• Fixed the man page command so the correct locale is automatically selected.
• Fixed several syntax errors in the output of the lsipsec command.
• Fixed a lock conflict problem caused by a crash of PHYP on the destination managed system in the middle of migration operation.
• Fixed Pegasus CIM API when heavily queried to not run out of sockets resulting in empty results.
• Fixed concurrent dlpar operation and partition migration operation on the destination server from failing with HSCL3205 "The managed system is busy, please try the operation again later".
• Fixed a Restore profile data failure when the backup file contains memory pool configuration.
• Fixed an issue that now prevents Kerberos user with expired password from being able to login to the HMC.
• Fixed an issue that resulted in error javax.servlet.ServletException: Exception while processing WCL trigger for URI when setting processor compatibility mode through the GUI.
• Fixed an issue where "Remote Command execution" could be disabled in some cases after upgrade.
• Fixed an issue where an lpar moved from a managed system at a firmware level of (760 or higher) to a managed system at a lower firmware level (less than 760), required the destination system to be removed and added to HMC again.
• Fixed an issue where the refdev command works only when CEC is in Power On state, in Power Off state error HSCLA9D7 was returned.
• Fixed an issue with an aborted migration operation displaying a B602 error message.
• "Hibernation" title will be translated on GUI.
• Fixed an issue where the WWPNS property was not returned for NPIV.
• Fixed an issue when a partition is started with an non-zero etting for the min_huge page causing failure HSCL2997.
• Fixed ldapsearch to handle complex search string to avoid error "AcceptSecurityContext".

• Fixed a problem with a migration recovery operation not able to delete leftover partition on the source server.
• Fixed a defect that caused the mkauthkeys command to fail for users with "." in their user names.
• Implemented improvement for lshwres performance to prevent possible command blocking problem on management console when VIOS is in error state.
• Fixed a problem where selecting dedicated versus shared processor mode during partition creation wizard cannot be undone without canceling wizard.
• Fixed a probem with rnvi missing library error message "nvi: error while loading shared libraries".
• Fixed an issue to now display a more descriptive message when adding an overlapping virtual ethernet adapter to a running partition requires firmware level of 770 or later.
• Fixed an issue where the user received an error if any invalid configuration or invalid partition ids are passed via the lsmemopt or optmem commands.
• Corrected the displayed shared processor pool values after modification.
• Fixed a problem where user gets an unknown error message when running chipsec command.

Repair and Verify fixes for POWER 750, 755, 770, and 780 servers (POWER7-based technology).

• Corrected GX Adapter Card Repair & Verify panel graphics content issues.
• Fixed BPA repair to allow concurrent maintenance of FRUs instead of giving the option to power off with error "BPA HARDWARE INTERFACE COULD NOT BE ESTABLISHED".
• Fixed a problem with vary off calls during an exchange FRU of SRIOV adapter.
• Fixed miscellaneous message of "unknown modifier".
• Removed blank System & Enclosure MTMS FRU Information entries from affected panels.
• Corrected a problem where Repair of a Serviceable Event would lead to the wrong Serviceable Event/Problem being Repaired.
• Fixed LparCmdRM crash that could fail CC LPM with 1021 error code.
• Removed "DCC Card" FRU from the Exchange FRU dialog for mid-range/low-end systems.
• Fixed concurrent FSP Exchange on some 9117 and 9179 systems.
• Resolved Open/Close MES window content/sizing issues.
• Fixed an issue during a Repair and Verify, the PBCommonQueryFRUAvailable included a state of 'select Yes' instead of stating to 'select Continue'.
• Added support for feature code EDF1-001 for 9117-MMD and 9179-MHD systems.
• Fixed an issue with the 5791 Exchange FRU procedure for DCA's, the panel PBBandCRemoveDCA20 twill now show 'Verify the LEDs are off except for the Pwr FLT which may be blinking.'
• Fixed a navigational issue with the "previous" button while installing more than one BPR/BPD.
• Corrected Repair&Verify DCA Remove and Install panel graphics for FHB systems.

• Added the error handling panels when initialization of low power mpode fails.
• Fix graphics image for RAID Battery Exchange/Repair FRU serviceable event for 9117-MMx and 9179-MMx system types.
• Fix the incorrect message in service network validation result panel.
• Fix the incorrect graphics and instructions for BPA related FRUs for POWER7 795.
• Made improvements to the MES WCII panels such that the user must make a selection prior to proceeding to completing the procedure.
• Resolved an issue where POWER7 type ExD system fan exchanges at A1 and A2 would not load the starting panel due to an incorrect resource path.
• Fixed the incorrect text on "titanHECECPressServiceButtonToIdentify10".
• Fixed the incorrect/missing texts of exchanging memory DIMM.
• Fixed an issue where when a Serviceable Event is created on the management console, the virtual retain sub-directory stores an extraneous iqyymrge.log file that is already part of the 6.zip file (example where 6 is the problem number).
• Fixed incorrect graphics of GX cable shown while exchanging midplane on POWER7 795.

Command line changes

• The following commands have been enhanced to support Virtual Station Interface (VSI) profiles and the Virtual Ethernet Port Aggregator (VEPA) virtual switch mode: chhwres, lshwres, chsyscfg, lssyscfg, mksyscfg, migrlpar, and chsysstate.
• The chhwres command has been enhanced to set the memory region size for a managed system. The setting takes effect after the managed system is restarted.
• The chhwres command has been enhanced for memory and processing resource remove operations from shutdown partitions. When all of the memory is removed from a shutdown partition, all of the processing resources will be removed as well. Likewise, when all of the processing resources are removed from a shutdown partition, all of the memory will be removed as well.
• The chsysstate command has been enhanced to allow the user to use the --force option to shut down a Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) partition which is the only VIOS partition providing access to the paging device or reserved storage device for one or more partitions.
• A new option has been added to the chhmc command to allow a Kerberos password admin server to be specified. The lshmc command has been enhanced to display it.
• The chhmcusr command has been enhanced to allow a Kerberos password to be changed.
• The chhmc command has been enhanced to allow the user to disable the use of anonymous ciphers on the HMC chatlet interface (port 9920), and the lshmc command has been enhanced to display the setting.

This package has the following known issues:

• A Kerberos user with an expired password is allowed to log in via ssh with the warning messages: "Password expired. You must change it now." Logging via the UI is denied as usual if the [Kerberos] password is expired.
• When upgrading to HMC V7.770.0, "Remote Command execution" (ssh) may be disabled. Ensure that local HMC access or remote web browser access is available to re-enable it prior to upgrading.
• To ensure that the keyboard mapping is working properly for non English keyboards, the codeset for the locale must be UTF-8. You can change the codeset by using the chhmc command.
  Example
  Set the locale to French with UTF-8 codeset for use with French keyboard.

  Set the locale to English with UTF-8 codeset for use with French keyboard.
  chhmc -c locale -s modify -l en_US.UTF-8
• You will not be able to enter Japanese, Chinese or Korean text on GUI interface of the HMC. Thisissue affects all releases since V7 R750. You can always use remote access to enter those characters.
• When upgrading server firmware to 770 on a CEC with redundant HMCs connected, you must disconnect or power down the HMC not being used to perform the upgrade before doing the upgrade. This restriction is enforced by the Upgrade Licensed Internal code task.
• When upgrading HMC to 770 mandatory PTF, use only local users to do any operations on HMC.
• While taking Management console data backup to remote SFTP server, an Invalid Directory Path is specified with a valid Server Name, USER ID and password. Instead of displaying an Error message, the HMC continues to back up and displays a Backup Successful message.
• The HMC Network Backup and Restore in PXE environment is not functional in HMC Version 7.770.0. This problem will be addressed in a future release.
• After reactivating VIOS when IVM to HMC transition is complete, VMC slot (slot #2) remains as reserved.
• When you create an IBM i partition, the list of load source slots is empty. You are unable to select a load source.
  Circumvention: Complete the wizard, select the new partition, and then click Configuration -> Manage Profiles. Edit the profile, select the desired load source, and then click OK.
• Some security scan tools may report "Slow HTTP headers vulnerability" against port 443.
• The import of VIOS images by means of FTP will be available in a later service pack.
