Use the AIX Profile Manager Template
page to create or edit a template. This page includes an AIX Profile Manager profile and the
options to configure that are required to deploy this profile on system
managed by AIX Profile Manager.
You can use the Configuration Manager deployment mechanisms to deploy
templates. To deploy a template, select an AIX Profile Manager template in the
Configuration Manager templates table and click Deploy.
Introduction
The
AIX Profile Manager Create Template
page consists of the following sections:
- Template Profile
- Template Options
Only profiles that have values can be used when creating an
AIX Profile Manager template. Once
you have made all your selections, click
Save to
create the template or save the changes you made to an existing template.
Click
Cancel to return to the Configuration
Templates page without saving your changes.
Template Profile
Select the AIX Profile Manager profile to use
for the template. Click Browse to open a popup
that displays the list of available profiles. Only profiles that contain
values are displayed in the profiles list. The table contains two
columns: the profile name and the profile type (reboot, disruptive,
or dynamic). Click Import to add new profiles
to the list of available profiles. The template can contain only one AIX Profile Manager profile.
Actions
- Import
- Select this action to open the Import task
to add profiles to the Director server. You can import profiles from
your local hard disk drive, from a LDAP server, or from remote systems.
Template Options
This section is divided
into the subsections: General options, Boot profile options, and Master
profile management.
- General options
- The following are the general options:
- Perform check after deployment
- Perform a hidden retrieve operation after the deployment. This
method checks that the values are set to the specified values. If
differences are found, the deployment operation fails and the systems
configuration is rolled back to its previous configuration.
- Roll back on failure
- Create a rollback profile on the system with the current configuration
of the parameters. If an error occurs during the deployment operation,
the rollback profile is applied to reset all the parameters of the
system to their previous configuration. To roll back the configuration
of the system to the state when the first deployment error occurs,
delete this option (values might have already been set).
- Do not create a rollback profile
- Prevent the creation of a rollback profile when you perform the
deployment. If an error occurs during deployment and if a rollback
on failure is specified, the system is reset to the previously saved
configuration.
- Boot Profile Option
- Select the type of parameters that are set on the system when
the template is deployed. Possible values follows:
- All parameters: Select this option to set all the parameters in
the profile. This option is the default setting.
- Dynamic parameters: Select this option to exclude parameters that
require the system to reboot or a disruptive operation, for example,
a bosboot to be performed before the parameter is set.
- No reboot parameters: Select this option to exclude parameters
that require the system to reboot before being set.
- Reboot parameters: Select this option to include only parameters
that require the system to reboot before being set.
- Master profile management
- The master profile is a specific AIX Profile Manager profile that is
deployed automatically on the system each time it is rebooted or shut
down. When setting a master profile, the following configuration options
are mandatory:
- Do not perform check after deployment
- Roll back on failure
- Create a rollback profile
- Boot profile option is All parameters
- Set master profile
- Select this option to deploy the template profile. Additionally,
this option also defines the template as the AIX Profile Manager master profile.
If an error occurs during deployment, the profile is not defined as
the master profile of the system. The system is then rolled back to
its previous configuration. If the deployment is successful, this
template is recorded as the last deployed template and is the master
profile of the system.
- Unset master profile
- Select this option to replace the existing master profile, if
any, with an empty profile, after deploying the selected template.
