IBM Workload Partitions Manager for AIX (WPAR Manager) is a licensed advanced manager for IBM Director that is designed to manage AIX Version 6.1 and 7.1 Workload Partitions (WPAR) across multiple systems and to provide enablement for Live Application Mobility. The WPAR Manager allows an administrator to create, clone, and remove WPAR definitions, or start and stop WPARs from an easy to use management interface. WPAR Manager includes the checkpoint/restart enablement needed to relocate a WPAR from one system to another using Live Application Mobility. Live Application Mobility can be used to relocate a WPAR without restarting the application or causing significant impact to the application users. 2.0 Prerequisites and co-requisites 3.0 Installation information 3.1 Prior to installation If you downloaded the update package from ibm.com, you must import the update before you can install it using Update Manager. If you acquired the files using Update Manager, the update has already been imported. To import the update from the command line, use the following command: smcli importupd -vr To import the update from the IBM Systems Director Web interface, perform these steps: 1. In navigation area, expand Release Management and click Updates. The Update Summary page displays. 2. In the Common Tasks section, click Import updates. The Import Updates page is displayed. 3. Type the directory of the update files on the management server in the Path field. All updates in the specified directory will be copied to the update library. You cannot select specific updates from this directory. 4. Click OK. The scheduler is displayed. Choose to run the task now or schedule it to run in the future. 3.2 Install To install the update from the command-line, use the following command: smcli installupd -v [-n | -N ] -u com.ibm.director.wparmgt.mgr.feature_2.2.1.0 To install the update from the IBM Systems Director Web interface, perform these steps: 1. In navigation area, expand Release Management and click Updates. The Update Summary page displays. 2. In the Common Tasks section, click Update IBM® Systems Director. The Install Wizard is displayed. 3. Follow the steps in the Install Wizard to install the update. 3.3 Perform the necessary tasks after install 1) Restart the management server on which the update has been applied. 2) After upgrading IBM Workload Partitions Manager to version 2.2.1.0, you will be required to install the com.ibm.director.wparmgt.agent.installer.feature_2.2.1.0 update on all the WPAR capable systems managed by the Director server. 3) Before updating the WPAR Manager Agent you must ensure the managed system has at least 200 MB free in the /var filesystem. If you do not, and the update fails, simply enlarge the /var filesystem by executing the following command as root: "chfs -a size=+200M /var" and retry the update. 4) Note that when updating the agent on an AIX managed system running a version older than AIX 6100 TL6, the WPAR Manager Agent update may not appear as a needed update, and you may be unable to install the updade through Update Manager. Thus, to update the WPAR Manager Agent on an AIX managed system running a version older than AIX 6100 TL6, you need to install the WPAR Manager Agent subagent package. To do this, click on "Release Management" and then on "Agents"; then view the "All Agent Packages" group and install the "CommonAgentSubagent WPAR Manager Agent 2.2.1.0" package on the desired managed systems. 5) Also, after installing the agent update on an AIX managed system running a version older than AIX 6100 TL6, in some instances the agent features may come up in disabled state, preventing them from being detected when software inventory is collected. If you encounter this issue, simply run the following two commands as root on the affected AIX managed system: installp -bug wparmgt.agent.rte installp -XYgbad /opt/ibm/director/agent/tmp/wpar_manager_agent wparmgt.agent.rte and then collect Software Inventory and Extended WPAR Inventory. 4.0 Uninstalling Update Manager does not support uninstallation of com.ibm.director.wparmgt.mgr.feature_2.2.1.0.
