It does not support preinstallation of the driver. - This package is designed to automatically perform new installations or to upgrade previous Emulex drivers to the current version. It will not automatically overwrite a higher version of the driver. 1.2 Problems Fixed - See change history for details. 1.3 Prerequisites Return code "172" is defined as "prerequisites not met". If you get this code when you run the driver installation, please refer to the log in %SystemDrive%\IBM_Support\ for information on which specific prerequisite was not met. You can use the command "systeminfo" to display a list of installed updates and hotfixes. If you need a specific update, search the Microsoft Knowledge Base for the specific update or hotfix. WINDOWS 2008: - Windows 2008 Service Pack 2 is required. - Nonpaged Pool Memory Hotfix 968675 is considered optional, but recommended. If you wish to use one of these tools, please refer to the instructions that came with your specific management tool. Installation via these tools will generally require little or no user input to complete the installation. This package can also be installed as a standalone executable or the files can be extracted for a manual installation. Please see section 2.2 for standalone installation instructions. 2.1 Installation Notes - This driver revision supports the following operating systems: o Windows 2008 SP2 o Windows 2008 R2 SP1 o Windows 2012 - The installation of this driver package will create a summary log in the directory "%SystemDrive%\IBM_Support\". Detailed driver installation logs are created in the directory "%ProgramFiles%\Emulex\". Please refer to these logs for installation details. - A reboot is required following the installation of this driver package for the new drivers to be fully functional. 2.2 Standalone Installation Instructions As a standalone package, this executable can be used in the following ways: 1) To install the Emulex Device Driver on the local system. 2) To extract all necessary files for a manual driver installation to the local hard drive or other media. 2.2.1 Manually Installing the Device Driver 1) Copy the package executable file to a temporary directory on your hard drive. 2) Run the executable by double clicking on the file icon or by typing "elx_dd_iscsi_ibm1206-4.2.281.0_windows_32-64.exe" at a command prompt. 3) Select "Perform Update" and then click "Next". 4) Click "Update". 5) To perform another function, click "Back", otherwise click "Exit" to exit the utility. 2.2.2 Extracting Device Driver Installation Files 1) Copy the package executable file to a temporary directory on your hard drive. 2) Run the executable by double clicking on the file icon or by typing "elx_dd_iscsi_ibm1206-4.2.281.0_windows_32-64.exe" at a command prompt. 3) Select "Extract to Hard Drive" and then click "Next". 4) Select a desired destination directory and click "OK". 5) To perform another function, click "Back", otherwise click "Exit" to exit the utility. 2.3 Uninstalling the Driver During installation, this driver installation automatically creates an uninstall entry in Add/Remove Programs. If you wish to uninstall this driver package, please utilize this uninstall entry. A reboot is required following uninstallation, before attempting to reinstall. 2.4 Troubleshooting Tips - Log files are created during each installation of this driver. You can find these logs in the directories "%SystemDrive%\IBM_Support\" and "%ProgramFiles%\Emulex\". - A reboot is required after installing or uninstalling this driver. 3.0 Configuration Information ______________________________ 3.1 Package Return Codes 0: No errors detected. Successful installation. 171: Errors were detected. Installation was not successful. 172: Prerequisites not met. This return code is also used to indicate equal or better driver version is already installed. 4.0 Unattended Mode ____________________ To run this package in unattended mode, use the following command: elx_dd_iscsi_ibm1206-4.2.281.0_windows_32-64.exe -s 5.0 Known Issues ________________ 5.1 IBM UpdateXpress displays 'Undetected' for installed driver version When applying the iSCSI driver using the IBM UpdateXpress System Pack Installer environment, the UpdateXpress System Pack Installer utility will display the installed driver as 'Undetected' if the Converged Network Adapter (CNA) does not have the iSCSI personality enabled. This is because Windows does not load drivers for any personality that is not enabled.
