(Windows 2003 is not supported in this driver package.) 1.2 Limitations - This package is designed to perform fresh installations and upgrade installations only. It does not support preinstallation of drivers, and it does not directly support reinstallation of the same driver version. See the instructions in section 2.1 below for more information about "Forcing reinstall or downgrade". 1.3 Problems fixed: - See change history for details. 1.4 Prerequisites for the update: Note: Return code "172" is defined as "prerequisites not met". If you get this code when you run the update, please refer to the package log at \IBM_Support for information on which specific prerequisite was not met. Note: This package is designed to automatically perform new installations and to upgrade previous Brocade drivers to the current version. It will not automatically overwrite the same or higher version. If you attempt to do so, the package will exit with return code "172". If you wish to use one of these tools, please refer to the instructions that came with your specific management tool. Installation via these tools will generally require no user input to complete the installation. This package can also be installed as a standalone executable, or as a manual installation. Please see section 2.1 for standalone installation instructions. Installation Notes: ___________________ - This update supports Windows 2008 (32/64 bit), and Windows 2008 R2. - Windows may display a "reboot required" prompt during this installation, requiring the user to select "YES" or "NO". IMPORTANT: Always disallow the reboot by selecting "NO" if this prompt appears. This will allow the installation to complete without interruption. Please reboot manually after the driver installation has completed. (Reboot is required even if no "reboot required" prompt is displayed.) - This update installs the appropriate FC, FCoE, and/or NIC drivers for your adapter, along with the Host Connectivity Manager (HCM) Agent. The GUI- based HCM application is not installed by default, but is included in the package. If you wish to install the HCM application, see the instructions in section 2.1. - This update will automatically perform initial installation or upgrade installation from previous driver versions. It will not perform overwrite or downgrade installations, but these can be accomplished by a standalone installation. See section 2.1. - A pop-up message may be generated during this installation, indicating that the "hcmagent.exe has stopped working". This does not indicate a problem. Please select "close" to close the window. - This update will create an summary log at \IBM_Support. A detailed driver installation log is created at "\Brocade\Adapter". Please refer to these logs for installation details. - A reboot is required following the installation of this update for the new drivers and HCM Agent to be fully functional. 2.1 Standalone Installation instructions _________________________________ As a standalone package, this executable can be used in the following ways: - to install/update the Brocade Device Driver and HCM Agent on the local system. - to extract all files necessary for the update to the local hard drive or other media. - to manually launch the scripted driver/agent installation. - to force-overwrite the same or higher revision driver. - to install the Brocade Host Connectivity Manager application. - to access Driver Update Disk images. Updating the device driver and HCM Agent: 1) Copy the package executable file to a temporary directory on your hard drive. 2) Run the executable by double clicking on the file icon, or by typing "brcd_dd_cna_3.0.0.0_windows_32-64.exe" at a command prompt. 3) Select "Perform Update" and then click "Next". 4) Click "Update". The update process will begin. 5) To perform another function, click "Back", otherwise click "Exit" to exit the utility. Extracting files: 1) Copy the package executable file to a temporary directory on your hard drive. 2) Run the executable by double clicking on the file icon, or by typing "brcd_dd_cna_3.0.0.0_windows_32-64.exe" at a command prompt. 3) Select "Extract to Hard Drive" and then click "Next". 4) Select a desired destination directory and click "OK". 5) To perform another function, click "Back", otherwise click "Exit" to exit the utility. Manually launching the driver/agent installation: 1) Extract the package update files to your hard drive per the steps listed above. 2) Open a command window in the directory containing the extracted files. 3) Type "Install.cmd". Wait until the command prompt is returned to you, signifying the completion of the installation. This will take several minutes. Forcing reinstall or downgrade from a higher driver revision: 1) Extract the package update files to your hard drive per the steps listed above. 2) Open an Explorer Window in the folder containing the extracted files. 3) Double Click the file "brocade_adapter_software_installer_windows_ v3-0-0-0.exe" and follow the prompts. Installing the (optional) HCM Application and GUI-based installation: 1) Extract the package update files to your hard drive per the steps listed above. 2) Open an Explorer Window in the folder containing the extracted files. 3) Double Click the file "brocade_adapter_software_installer_windows_ v3-0-0-0.exe" and follow the prompts. On the "Choose Install Set" window, choose the third option: "Host Connectivity Manager (HCM)". Accessing the Driver Update Disk images: 1) Extract the package update files to your hard drive per the steps listed above. 2) The disk images will be found in the "DUDs" directory. Unzip and copy to the desired media. 2.2 Uninstalling the update ___________________________ During installation, this update automatically creates an uninstall icon in the start menu. If you wish to uninstall this driver package, please utilize this uninstall icon. Wait several minutes for the uninstall to complete (there is no visual indication when it finishes.) A reboot is strongly recommended following uninstallation, before attempting to reinstall. NOTE: Uninstalling this driver update will generally reinstall a previous driver version. If you wish to completely remove all Brocade drivers from the system, first perform the uninstall as outlined in the previous paragraph, then manually uninstall the remaining drivers from Device Manager. 2.3 Troubleshooting tips ________________________ - Log files are created during each installation of this driver update. You can find the logs at "\IBM_Support", and at "\BROCADE\Adapter". - If you see an indication that "No live DEVNODES were detected...", this most likely resulted from the FCoE or FC driver not detecting associated hardware. In most cases, this is not a concern and the message is shown for informational purposes only. Examine brocade_install.log at the indicated address to see which driver gave this indication. This package attempts to load FC, FCoE, and NIC drivers, but if you have, for example, only an FC device installed, the FCoE and NIC drivers will not detect "live nodes", and will not load. Since there's no way for the installation script to know what is actually installed, the "no live DEVNODES" message is shown on the screen and in the installation log. The user is expected to have sufficient knowledge of the installed hardware to determine if the driver "should" have found hardware. If no associated hardware is installed, then the message is of no concern. - A reboot is required after installing or uninstalling this update. - If you experience problems running this update with the automated installation tools, try running the GUI-based installer. For instructions, see section 2.1, "Forcing reinstall or downgrade from a higher driver revision". 3.0 Configuration information ______________________________ Return Codes set by this package: 0: No errors detected. Neither party may bring a legal action under this Agreement more than two years after the cause of action arose. 8. Third Party Components. Software provided under this EULA may be distributed with certain freeware, open source or other third party components ("Open Source Software") which, if included, are provided pursuant to the terms of the applicable Open Source License governing its use and distribution. Restricted Rights. U.S. Government Restricted Rights. The Software and the related documentation provided are a "commercial item," as that term is defined at 48 C.F.R. 2.101 (Oct. 1995), consisting of "commercial computer software" and "commercial computer software documentation," as such terms are used in 48 C.F.R. 12.212 (Sept. 1995). Consistent with 48 C.F.R. 12.212 (Sept. 1995) and 48 C.F.R. 227.7202-1 through 227.7202-4 (June 1995), all U.S. Government End Users acquire the Software and the related documentation with only those rights set forth in this EULA. 11. Taxes. You will pay the license fees exclude all sales, use, VAT and other transaction taxes, personal property taxes and other taxes. You will be responsible for payment of all such taxes (other than those based on ProviderÆs net income), including any related penalties and interest, arising from the payment of license fees or the delivery or license of the Software to You, unless You furnish satisfactory proof of exemption. You will make all payments of license fees to Provider free and clear of, and without reduction for, any withholding taxes; any such taxes imposed on payments of license fees to Provider will be LicenseeÆs sole responsibility. 12. High Risk Activities. THE SOFTWARE IS NOT DESIGNED, MANUFACTURED, OR INTENDED FOR USE OR RESALE AS ON-LINE CONTROL PRODUCTS REQUIRING FAIL-SAFE CONTROLS, SUCH AS IN THE OPERATION OF NUCLEAR FACILITIES, AIRCRAFT NAVIGATION OR COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS, AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL, LIFE SUPPORT, OR WEAPONS SYSTEMS WHERE FAILURE OF THE SOFTWARE COULD LEAD DIRECTLY TO DEATH, PERSONAL INJURY AND/OR SUBSTANTIAL PROPERTY DAMAGE. The terms and conditions of this EULA constitute the entire agreement between Provider and You with respect to the subject matter hereof, and supersede all prior or contemporaneous oral or written representations, proposals or agreements concerning the subject matter herein. The terms and conditions herein take precedence over any additional or different terms, from whatever source, including Your purchase order or other correspondence, to which objection is hereby made by Provider. Without limiting the foregoing, You agree that flowdown provisions, including, but not limited to United States Government Federal Acquisition Regulations ("FARs"), Defense FARs or NASA FARs, shall not apply to Provider and Provider does not accept such provisions notwithstanding the existence of such provisions. None of the terms and conditions in this EULA will be deemed waived, amended or modified by Provider unless such waiver, amendment, or modification is made in writing and signed by an authorized representative of Provider. No waiver of rights contained in this EULA shall constitute a subsequent waiver of such rights or any other rights hereunder. If any provision of this EULA is held to be invalid or unenforceable by a proper authority having jurisdiction over this EULA, that provision shall be modified and interpreted to accomplish the objectives of such provision to the greatest extent possible under applicable law and the remainder of this EULA shall continue in full force and effect. This EULA is governed by the laws of the State of California, without reference to its conflict of law principles. The UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) is specifically excluded and shall not be applicable to this EULA. You agree to comply with all U.S. and foreign export control laws and regulations, including but not limited to the U.S. Export Administration Act of 1979, as amended, and successor legislation, and the Export Administration Regulations passed by the Department of Commerce. You expressly agree that You shall not export, directly or indirectly, re-export, divert, or transfer the Software or any direct product thereof to any destination, company or person restricted or prohibited by U.S. export controls. 15. Acknowledgment. By installing, downloading, accessing, or otherwise using the Software, You acknowledge and agree that You have read this EULA and agreed to its terms.
